Need some help before making final decision on the wonderful kx:

i'm planning to get it later in july
this is going to be my first dslr camera
i've been learning and enjoying photography using a lumix fz28 for the past 1 year and a few other pns previously..

i found that my passion lies in night sceneries, landscape and macro(in this order)..
so i understand that wide and/or fast lens will be what i'm looking for..

currently planning to get kx twin lens kit (18-55 and 55-300) and hopefully an FA50 1.4 at the same time if its available..

however, i wanna get either the white or red kx, and from wat i read, there's no twin lens kit for them.. what should i do?

and other than the combination of these 3 lenses, are there any other combinations that fit into my budget of ~1.6-1.7k?

TIA

Buy the Red/White kit and get the 55-300 separately.

Option 2
Buy the dual kit in black

Option 3
Call Emjay to check if they have brought in more coloured dual kits

Option 4
Buy Red/White kit and buy macro lens, either 35mm/50mm/100mm macro lens

Hope this helps

First of all, welcome to clubsnap!

Actually, since you mentioned that you like to take landscape, scenery and macro. You won't need a fast lens cos you would need to have a deeper DOF for landscape and also for macro.

I won't recommend you getting the FA50 for your use as it's more suitable for portrait taking but instead, a wide angle sigma 10-20 or DA 12-24 would be good for scenery while the DFA 100mm Felix (our most patience forumer!) would be well suited for macro uses or the Da 35 macro for a more versatile walkaround use

Hope my 2 cents can help you in your decision making :)

Go for option 4 suggested by felixcat8888 because of your shooting preference. Then get a macro lens. New macro lens will break your budget so you may want to consider getting older lens. Also get a tripod. Good thing about Pentax is their lenses can be light, so a budget and light tripod will do the job for your case.

Also, Brianskivvy also has a point. You won't need the FA50. If you buy the single lens kit (red/white K-x) that will cost you only about $800 I think, so you will have about remaining $800 to buy a macro lens and tripod.

You can try out SLR revolution they are selling the k-x single lens kit for S$700+, for the price right now you had to call Jason(which is their saleperson, very friendly too) at 97285550:D

Have fun with your new camera and welcome to Pentax:lovegrin:

thanks for such warm welcome and informative suggestions..

i know that nightshots and landscapes are my favourite and the bokeh from FA50 juz turns me on so much~ lol

but if i dont have a fast lens, what will happen to my nightshots?

oh and sometimes i will go for concerts and fashion shows, so 55-300 will be a very welcomed addition..

by the way, who ish emjay?

My advice is to get the dual kit first then decide which the next lens to buy after you've tried out all the focal range:)

Emjay is the distributor for Pentax

If it has not changed it should be $782 for the single kit w/o freebies , but so cheap already freebies can use the money but better ones!

I think the 55-300 is not very suitable for concerts and fashion ,bec its too slow ... you will need a faster lens like the sigma 70-200 f2.8

As for nightshots normally you would step down the aperture then use a tripod and expose for like 30 sec's if you can wait :bsmilie:
Anyways even a fast lens when its dark at night the shutter will still not be fast enough to stop handshake and blur pictures so if you really into night photography you will definitely need a tripod . You might want to ask night86mare , he specialises in it !

Can consider tamron 90mm macro if u have a tight budget and I believe the photos that came from that lens won't lose to the DFA 100mm. =P

Should be around that price. I brought mine at feb, and couldn't remember the price liao.

Orh.. I tot u juz bought it at a very "special price"... Anyways I'm in funan nw... Going to SLR now... Gonna get me a white kx...

To TS on the subject:

Why would you want to "hoot" (beat) your kx when you buy it?

:dunno::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Hope there is still stock for you !:bsmilie:

Of cos there's stock... Cos I called them before going down... Anyways I believe they still have a few pieces left for white... Manly also have 1 pc left... Hurry folks!!!

Oh... Btw... I'm glad to inform... I'm a pentaxian from this day on... Woohoo...

wah congrats on the buy..
u juz made me more gian~

thats how we say it in EDMW.. lol

jokes aside, i saw the price guide on pentax shows:
k-x (18-55mm kit)
k-x (18-55mm L + 55-300mm L)
got difference in the L and non-L packages in their lenses?

and how much will it cost me if i get a white/red kx then a separate 55-300?

Features in the non-L that are lacking in the L:
- No quick shift focus (quick shift allows you to fine tune your focus manually even when in AF mode.
- No metal lens mount (its plastic).
- No hood supplied.
- No distance marking on lens barrel.

I think the DA 55-300 is about $500+ to $600. Did you check the price guide?
