Why not just remove the old the Marketplace section and replace with the new section? I like the separation by brand but some of the nikon or fuji items are still left back in the old section and it might get confusing.

i think it takes time to categorize all the thread and move them to correct box, so we have to leave it there at the moment.

It was taking too long to move the items over, so for the sake of accessibility, we re-opened the forums.

We are still moving items over to the new sections, so please bear with us for now.

Having said that, we may only move the last 1-2 months of threads over as there really is no need to have more than that.

Only Japanese brands represeted...? ;)

The first five I think are fair intuitive... but from "other camera brands" onwards I think it is too vague.

Can I suggest as follows:

6) Buy/Sell: Leica, Zeiss, Voigtlander and other camera brands including Rangefinders
7) Buy/sell: All other formats except (i) FF DSLR (ii) APSC DSLR (ii) 35mm film format

If we follow the principal that ads are placed to attracting a certain group... then Nikon should be revamped to say "Nikon (& Fuji DSLR)"

How about posting a reply in the Classified section?
Let's say i posted a WTS ad, and the product description is not clear enough, or made a mistake.
i would have to read and reply a lot of similar pm to clarify the mistake or lack of info, when all i need to do is to add on to my previous posting.
quite a fair bit of extra work, isn't it?

some suggestions... sorry, not really reporting errors or omissions... just loading on the number suggestions to the admin... sorry, but suggestions are based on how i think ppl may search for items...

i) based on some of the admin reallocation of the B&S threads, 3rd party lenses are going into the "other brand lenses" section. it would be more useful for 3rd party lenses and flashes to be in the sub-section according to mount, e.g. sigma F-mount should be posted in the nikon forum, not the other brands. related would be Keltzar's point on the "nikon-fujifilm f-mount" suggestion... which leads me to my next suggestion...

ii) the personals handle the DSLR market pretty well, and rightfully so, as those likely have the largest share of post in the B&S. but i would suggest having the "by brand" section to only handle DSLR and SLR bodies, lenses and flashes. further, but instead of "other camera brands / formats" and "other brand lenses / flashes", i would suggest having "other digital cameras / compacts" and "other film cameras".

iii) lastly... no more "upz!!" wars!! but would there be a limit imposed on the number of times can repost or posting an update (e.g. one of items have been sold) of a classified?... pls don't go into charging for posting...

my $0.02...

Categorisation is fine/ great but why the ban on posting into a buy/sell thread. IMHO, there are several points i would like to raise:

1. Changing the description or clarifying will now be difficult ie, as a seller, i have to repost because i forgot to mention some specification like whether a lens is AF, AFD or AFS?? Similarly, as a buyer, i cannot make a simple query without having to come OFF Clubsnap to sms, e-mail. This, as a consumer is a barrier to me wanting to buy an interesting item that i may not know a lot about but now cannot easily find out.

2. Valuable comments from fellow CSers are lost, and with it the sense of a community. How often have i stopped to read CHIFF's comments about a older lens/ camera or an interesting rangefinder that i know very little about. It is this community spirit that attracted us to clubsnap in the first place. Otherwise, it is too similar to ebay or other classifieds.

3. Believe it or not, the once-a-day upzzz rule brought a good balance to the marketplace. Like many others, we are not at our computers 24/7. The "upzzzing" actually helps by placing the "actives" in front. Often, a thread that is not upped means that the item has been sold. Expecting every Cser to close threads diligently is naive (even though i try my best to do so...:))

4. I actually feel that the life of the marketplace has disappeared overnight. I am by far a more frequent buyer than seller and without comments/ upzzz/ encouraging posts etc, we have returned to a sterility that kills the spirit of the place.

5. Clubsnap is a community, not a newspaper. The ability to share is what enabled the on-line marketplace.

No offence to all who disagree with me. My 2 cents.

Hi, I fully disagree with the new Buy/Sell sections, I prefer the previous settings very much. why ? These are what I think.

FIRST.

The new sections for a certain brand in a specific section is good, but it looks so messy with Camera bodies, lenses, flashes, accessories etc all pack together, seriously very messy, I think it is better if there is a sub-section under the main section, for example,

Main Section (Canon) --> Sub-section (lenses) or (Body) etc etc

I'm not sure about this, but it would be helpful if other brands that compatible with e.g Canon can also be recategorized in the same section.

SECOND

I think you did a great job of not allowing other CS member to post a reply to certain threads, because it keeps the thread clean and short. BUT by not allowing the creator of the specific threads to update his/her threads is a BIG NO. Anyhow the creator has to update his/her threads to show or remind to other CS member that it is still active or otherwise.

for example, creator might write these :

'current BNP is lowered' or 'highest bidder is ABC with SGDxxx' or ' thread will be close on xxx days' or something like that

THIRD

By only allowing interested CS member to directly contact the creator of a certain threads, for what I think is a good change, BUT only allowing 10 messages in the mail box is really NOT helpful at all. very very small amount indeed. it will be packed in no time.

FORTH

I have no other complains, just wanted to say thank you for the great effort of maintaining this forum.

thank you for considering my 1 cent opinion.

I agree with Vincent Vincent, I much prefer the previous buy/sell section, much more flexible and user friendly.

I think having a different sub section for lens and body under the main section is a great idea and will make the new Personal Classified more user friendly.

Just my opinion :)

A bug to report:
For many newly posted items, in the "Last Post" column, e.g. "34 Minutes Ago by .....", the [>] icon is an invalid link (http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?p=0#post0). I notice the older ported posts are fine.

Firstly, let me preface my replies (and all that follow) by saying that it is impossible to cater to every member's liking thus we have had to make decisions that, in our opinion, would suit most members most of the time. Our opinion may be spot-on, off slightly or off totally, and that is why we have this feedback section to hear members out.

Now onwards to try and clarify the statements below (which I have grouped roughly according to the type of feedback.)

How about posting a reply in the Classified section?

threads cant be replied back to...is it intended to be like this?
The ability for the threadstarter to post replies/updates was something that we internally debated about, and we wanted to run a trial to see if having this system would work better than the previous one where we had threadstarters bumping their posts several times a day (if you analyse the previous section, bumps were by far outweighing the use of replies to update the thread - on an average).

This bumping was in part necessary due to the volume of posts in the Buy & Sell which essentially meant that threads could easily be relegated to the back pages even within a 24 hr time period.

Now, with brand-separated sections, the volume of posts per section will be lessened thus it may not be necessary to bump the posts so often (we hope).

Having said that, we do recognise the need to allow the threadowner to update his/her thread and we will revisit this need in the near future. Please allow us to test the new sections as it is first to gauge effectiveness, and then we can adjust as necessary.

As buyers and sellers, members can also gauge for themselves the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of this new system and then give feedback when we revisit this need (for threadstarter to be able to make updates).

To be honest, the Buy & Sell section is not the most appropriate place to share information about equipment - those discussions are best placed in the respective equipment discussion sections.

If indeed "discussions" about specific equipment have been conducted in the Buy & Sell section then I must admit that we as Moderators have not done a good enough job in ensuring that the discussion is moved to a more appropriate section. We will look into this.

We will look into the granularity of the Others section and see if there is enough "demand" to warrant a further breakdown. Thanks.
