1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Everything

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
Faces of Joy

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
ISO to 1600, to get 1/50 at 51mm. Inside Esplanade.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture

I like the expression on the girl's face... she seems really excited. I like the composition.

IMHO....
1. You capture the right moment... but unlucky the the arm covered half the man's face
2. The man in the background does distract a bit
If you can have a bigger aperture, it will help to lower iso, increase shutter and blur off the background.

nice but would be more beautiful if the pic is sharper abit.. !

Getting good expressive shot of street people are extremely difficult...

* the decisive moment
* composition
* lightings

when all these elements get properly mixed...you'll get a woala picture !
somehow, here lack a bit.

and that bit is...composition.

very nice photo.. i wish the fathers arm is complete :)

nice expression, but there is no context for it, somehow. other than that expression, that's all there is to it.

other than that the huge amount of whatever you have done to isolate the girl's face reeks a bit of trying to save the photograph. does it work for me? not really, the effect looks very gimmicky. my advice is, when faced with such a situation, do better next time.

cheers.
