My suggestions:

- fill-flash to bring out the details in the shadow areas especially around the eye
- level the horizon

Compositionally good but background is a little distracting for me. Any cropping done?

Can be done. I have taken photos of the crocs at the zoo with fill-flash before. Of course, your flash will have to be at an angle to the glass.

As for croc movements, they can usually stay pretty still, so no worries there. ;)
