External Mic for 500D

Hi,

I am using a 500D and would like to attach an external mic. I browsed around and it seems like 500d does not support the external mic for the audio port.

Wondering if anyone has found a way around it?

For better sound quality you can use an external digital voice recorder with built in stereo mic.(some say better to record in mono for less problems) and sync it in post edit. Do note you still have to place it close to the subject. The chinese recorders are cheap and of course you can also use the branded pricier ones like Tascam ,sony etc. For windy conditions outdoors you may need to attach another mic with a "rabbit" or furry wrap to reduce wind pickup or cover the recorder like so.
