Hey all, I planning to get an external harddrive cause i'm running out of size on my laptop...
any recommendations on what and where to get it?

Almost any are good, you can get them all over funan and Sim Lim. I do recommend a reliable drive maker like Seagate.

Small, thin and portable - Any 2.5" 5400 RPM hard disk (USB powered)

Big, thick and less portable - Any 3.5" 7200 RPM hard disk (needs external power supply)

I personally go for the WD Passport range of 2.5" hard disks, I find them very fast and reliable.

I highly recommend NexStar, it runs cool and has both USB 2 with firewire.

Make sure you get those with 2 USB cable ( twin cable in 1 )
This will make sure it gets enough power and wouldnt crash.
USB itself may not give enough juice to run the harddisk

hey thanks... just asking, does the brand name matter ? what difference does it make? or should i just get the cheapest?

saw carrefour advertised a 250GB 2.5" for $139 a day ago.

By failure rate Seagate and Hitachi (previous IBM) seems to have the least. But after all, harddisk is really depends on luck

wad do u mean failure rate? like the whole disk just crash or smth like that?

Yah..means the data is totally unrecoverable unless with dust-free treatment.

I always service those Maxtxr and Fujitxx HDD which are not readable even plug into other PC. Resulting not able to recover the data.

hey thanks for all the help....
got a seagate freeagent 2.5" 160gb just now at sim lim...
