Hi all,

Just asking for a friend of mine. Me not so rich to own another G2 :D

Besides the Speedlite Flash (I forgotten which model), is there any other cheaper solutions for a Canon G2?

To what I know, a Speedlite flash cost about $300+?

Appreciate any help, thanks! :)

u can consider the canon speedlight 420ex...Costs around $300+ though.

Once u got one, u'll wonder how u managed to do without one!! ;)

CP quoted me $350 that day, is it that expensive?
I thought its in the range of $300-$320..

Yep my friend was thinking of buying that one too.

But it's a tad too expensive ($300+) and he's looking for other more affordable solution.

Thanks!

so far the best quote I saw is $340 ... from AP and CP ..

hehheh... hi guys!

actually Blitz is asking on my behalf. hey, thanks for all the replies.

yeah i was quoted $350 from AP last week too. quoted $360 from CP.

taking pics at nite is really tough man! taking pics of people that is. me and Blitz took that challenge of covering a company function not long ago. damn it's not easy with the poor lighting! erghhh!

maybe i got the best deal after all?
i got mine 420Ex from HK at $306
this one made in Korea
the stuff there are so much cheaper than s'pore
just that warranty is different and claim to be international

;)

Getting the Speedlite series is the safest bet. I once considered getting the Sigma EF500 Super which cost about the same as the 420EX but rumour has it that it does not work with the G1. Alternatively, you can get third party Auto flashes where you supply the ISO + Aperture information. I tried such a flash once and it actually works quite well. The downside is that you'll have to remember to dial in the correct information.

In the end, I took the safer route and got the 420EX instead. :)

Regards,
JK

yup, that's me. I had brought a multimeter along to test the trigger voltages when I went shopping for flash ;p

Camera Workshop quoted me $320 for the 420EX. You can consider and check it out there.

where's this place ar?

I juz want to wat's the different between 550ex and the 420ex.
Is it necessary to get 550ex for my G2.
I always want to get better one rather to pay for cheaper than upgrade it.

for G2 , 420EX is good enuff .. unless you ..
- want manual mode settings
- stronger flash power
- use it as a master to tigger slave
- have $

and also if u wanna do 2nd curtain sync...

I bought my 420 at $330 from AP last month.

A cheaper alternative is on the way from Suntex. They are having trouble with the TTL communication module and hence delay the flash. They however have the Nikon compatible flash.
