Excess Flaring on OM-D and Panny 7-14mm

I noticed that excess flaring occurs more often when I was using the panasonic 7-14mm lens on the OM-D. Initially I thought it might be the combination of factors such as direction of lights, placements n etc, but I realized that it doesn't occur as much on the GF1. I took a couple of shots using the two cameras at same viewpoints n the flaring of the lens on the OM-D is quite bad when compared to the GF1. In some shots, there wasn't even flaring on the GF1. Has anyone tried this lens on your OM-D and experience the same flaring issue?

The 7-14 flares like nobody's business. Due to the nature of the lens, the hood is not doing a good enuff job. Its a well know problem with this lens.

It does flare but it doesn't appear to be this bad on a Panasonic body. So I'm wondering how has Panasonic been able to reduce it on their cameras. Can it be partly due to the firmware?Nw I just have to spend more time finding the correct place and angle to prevent flaring in some shots. It's still a great lens n one of my favorite.

It's been talked about on dpreview recently. Got to learn (also from personal experience with the big stopper) that the outer lens elements are apparently not multi-coated, resulting in reflections due to glass at the front or back of lens. To save cost? Sad ah.

So the flare could possibly still exist with the GF1, but not as bad as with the E-M5, due to the characteristics of the filter/protective glass on the sensor.

You can imagine the disappointment when I saw the ghosts in the pic with the big stopper, shooting straight into the rising sun. =(

Ya, it's very disappointing to see it when I'm pairing the lens tog with OM-D. It's much more manageable on the GF1. I

Are these the flaring you are talking abt? Am using OMD too.

The only step ard to this is to move and take from a diff angle..experiment..sometime no choice just live with it

Yup, agreed! It's a very nice lens. As with all wides/ultra wides, gotta be careful where the light source is.

Wow! Its a great photo. Amazing colours! The 7-14 is indeed a great lens. Just too bad that the were cheap on the multicoat. Actually, the flare does not spoil the photo...but its just one of those things. The more you are fixated on it, the more you think its bad.

I agree it does flare, sometimes very badly:

But sometimes with some control the effect is still quite nice:

Its for Lumix body as it got CA correction in Lumix body that might help to improve the shots which Oly body dont have

this is my understanding as well. Have been using 7-14mm for few trips on both Oly and Panny body.

on Panny body, GX1 and G3, I never notice any flare. but has to be mindful on the angle to the light source when mounted on Oly body.

All this talk abt Panny not having CA makes me wanting to bring a 2nd Cam body, a GF1, to Nepal next week in addition to my OMD.

Not a deal killer for me, just watch out sunrays, if can't do it, add some creative flare can be nice :) Sometimes, I use my hands to block, just be watchful it doesn't get caught within frame :bsmilie: Haven't really used Pany body with this lens to comment, but CA is more purple fringing, not sure flare is/can be reduced with pany body? After all this is the widest rectilinear lens there is which doesn't have the nano coating of newer lenses. last ditch is PP. have fun in Nepal and post more pics bro!

There will be ghosting and flares but it's not as obvious on a GF1. The purple ghosting gets on my nerves. Haaa. I'm thinking about bringing my GF1 body for a trip next month as well just to use the 7-14mm. Am even thinking of selling my 2 weeks old OM-D now.
