I do have one question, how do one assess if the channels are blown if the histogram on the LCD is not reflecting the raw situation? Unless there is a better way, it means taking several shots of compensated images and review them later during raw conversion?

Set all Image Style parameters to 'Normal' or 'Truthful' and check the histogram then. This should come quite close to the RAW file.
Thanks for the link. Really food for thought. But then .. if one shoots film and digital it becomes like a split brain situation to have two different exposure strategies :)

I guess technology has come to the point where we all can turn insane just to adapt. Isn't it a good sign that the end is arriving? Lol...
