What does US has to do with a domestic issue in their country ? When US interfere they say they KPO act big brother, so they really don't know what they wants, just big mouth and talk rubbish with threats. Same as some country that wants to close the US bases in their country, forgetting that it's those US bases that are protecting them. I bet if the US left them and when the enemy comes to the gate they will be crying that the US don't help them, no humanity ...

It is just totally ridiculous that the Democrat Party is stubbornly fighting to bring about an unelected council and trying to bring down the democratically elected government. The elite must win popularity via good policies and not through coups and protests. But both sides are willing to let people die and the country suffer just to achieve their own selfish agenda.

Thaksin, Thai Rak Thai and Pheu Thai did what no other Thai political parties had done. He actually cared about the rural villagers. No wonder they like him so much. And why not.

Whether he did it for political gain is not the point. The point is there was nothing to stop the Thai democrat party from also showing care and concern for their fellow Thai citizens in the rural areas.

The Thai King cared for all his people, including the rural folk. That is why the whole country loves him.

Rural folk should be respected by their fellow Thais in the capital. The so-called Bangkok "reformers" now have a domineering attitude that only they know what is best and that whoever disagrees with them is "uneducated & stupid" and thus do not deserve to vote.

Rural folk are less educated because of a lack of opportunities for education. It is not because they chose to be less educated. Although they had less opportunities in education and health care; they are just as innately intelligent as any Thai living in Bangkok.

The country loves him because he is perfect. He is perfect because of the lese majeste laws and some good PR.

The red-shirted rural folks are essentially pitted against the yellow-shirted pro-monarchists. Some red shirts have criticized him and have been charged and jailed.

If I quote from wikipedia, Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally.
I underline the word 'eligible' as a qualifier. Did you know that in ancient Greece, slaves and woman are deemed ineligible?
Today the bar is age, but its a very simplistic qualifier. I can argue that 'uneducated' people's choice will not move the country forward on their own. More so if the elite can buy their vote or sway them in any way.

I do not know of any country in history that would let their slaves vote. But women? They deserve at least half a vote. And older wiser men between 40 and 65 should get 2 votes.

I'm not intellectually convinced that one-man, one-vote is the best. We practise it because that's what the British bequeathed us and we haven't really found a need to challenge that.

But I'm convinced, personally, that we would have a better system if we gave every man over the age of 40 who has a family two votes because he's likely to be more careful, voting also for his children. He is more likely to vote in a serious way than a capricious young man under 30. But we haven't found it necessary yet. If it became necessary we should do it.


At the same time, once a person gets beyond 65, then it is a problem. Between the ages of 40 and 60 is ideal, and at 60 they should go back to one vote, but that will be difficult to arrange.

Democracy in this modern day... is far from it's ancient form that started in Greece. Not only is Woman and Slave unable to vote... so are citizens that doesn't own land or property, aka, the poor and lowly. The idea is that those poor and lowly citizen has less reason to participate in the running of the state since these people have no 'ownership' of Land or Property, therefore... less concern of the state's welfare.

Put into modern context with SG as an example... people who are poor, and/or don't own their HDB... couldn't vote. SO.... ANYONE here think only the wealth and powerful S'porean should be given the vote ?? You sure that's a good idea ??
