Effort to censor the internet - and protests

The protest by shutting down does not work. Because the Big business, media owners and tycoons who are behind SOPA don't care two hoots.
It is strictly about MONEY. Nothing noble about this thing called SOPA. May affect our use of Youtube and other similar in future.
The way to combat this is for Google, Wiki and others to warn they will use their websites to campaign AGAINST the party or candidates who want to legislate SOPA.

not only those 2 sites LOL. Look What I Found! the perpetrator of the internet censorship

btw he looks like Ken Rockwell.

When sites like Wikipedia closes due to SOPA, people are unable to gain free knowledge as Wikipedia has stated, they will generally become less intelligent and the future of mankind will be less bright. Big companies are only condemning themselves this way

What rubbish. Mankind will still continue to improve. It's only addtional knowledge of other matters that mankind will always be nosey enough to look into that's none of their business that will be gone.

What the US is trying to do is to gain power over who the internet.to block things they don't want to be shown.

After so many years of championing freedom of speech, the USA has now become its biggest opponent

i support it too.. :vhappy:

hi

from List of Major Companies Supporting SOPA

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users
It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

so you can't sing songs written by others... u have to compose your own!

iphone, andriod etc will be less attractive with lesser contents.. lesser youtube, or perhaps no youtube at all!!!

yeah, good ah, back to stone age...

yes, but now do they really want to sue ordinary users singing pop son on facebook or not..

2012.. this is the start of our end.. they know the end is coming and are merely making some contribution..

yes, but now do they really want to sue ordinary users singing pop son on facebook or not..

maybe they wun sue u if u sing off-tune.. :bsmilie:

anyone who has done any good research work, knows that citing wikipedia equates to educational suicide.

at most we might just glance the references that wiki pages cite and use those. but pretty much your research/knowledge gathering should not be just at wikipedia. there are many papers that are published online which u can refer. wikipedia is more of a easy access general information thats all.

Are people generally more stupid 10 years ago?

censorship is bad......
without information from the internet for example,
we would probably not have gotten any apologies from our "dear" govt...

who would want one-sided information where we could only hear one side of the story....

and i still cannot believe that people in china cannot legally have a facebook account ......censorship taken to extemes...

the us can be quite hypocritic sometimes.. champion of human rights, freedom.. but look what they did..
disregarding international laws at times also..starting war here and there ..... but though much better than china...
who can imagine what they will do when they have more power .... surely much worse than the us...

I once followed a link from a Wikipedia article to check out more information from the cited source and right at the footnote, the webpage actually referred back to the same Wikipedia article.
