Dynamic Range

Can someone pls enlighten what is the use of the DR? I saw some online site on this info. When i tried that take the photos, i don really notice any diff between the 230% and the 400% DR when taking pics. The pics look more or less the same even i auto the range. Does it mean that the higher the DR%, genrerally a better outcome of photo, but at the expense of slower operation (like the fps)?

Can someone using Fuji DSLR pls enlighten me..... :embrass:
