A little about my situation: I'm a hobbyist photog, and will be getting a laptop for uni use. The laptops do not have integrated DVI output, and i will have to pay extra for docking stations if i need that. I do pretty serious photoshop work, but very seldom print photographs. As such, i intend to get a sizable external monitor solely for the sake of photo editing. I am looking at 20-22" PVA panels at the moment. I do not play games.
I understand that the differences between DVI and VGA output is minimal for non-critical users. But for photo editing, are these differences significant?
Suppose i intend to run both the integrated display and the standalone screen together, alongside each other, do i have to calibrate them to get consistent output between the 2? Is this recommended since the integrated display will most probably not be as good as a standalone? Bearing in mind that i hardly print, i am wondering if calibration is recommended at all.
Finally, any recommendations for 20-22" displays that are <$500?
I apologize if questions above are asked before. TIA.
