Here are my dragonfly shots taken yesterday at botanical gardens. All kind of comments are welcome. :)

The 1st pic, the background it a bit too distracting..
The bright sky and the dull trees

It too contrasting and the subject cannot stand out!

A fill-flash there and change an angle might be better!

use fill flash to bright the insects would be better :)

Ok. Will try the tissue paper over the built in flash method next time. U attached the tissue paper to the flash ah??? Cos seems to be quite difficult to hold it there.

Wow! Nice shots.
BTW, how did you guys out there do it?
I have tried using telezoom lens(zoom all the way to 300mm),
but the effect doesn't come out as nice as you guys did.
Care to share a bit? :D

for SLR , you need a macro lens to take insect shots ...... I am not sure abt telezoom lens ... does it support macro ?

Yup, I have a TAMRON SP 24-135mm macro SP lens. I dun think it is good enough for macros, maybe I need to get some closeup
filter or teleconverter to boost up the magification.

What do you think?

Thanks

from the site , it shows that the lens able to give 3.3 magnification ... that is really big

my 100mm macro lens only give 1x magnification ...

Your subject doesn't stand out. Partly because your background is too contrasting. Perhaps using fill flash might help.

can someone please post a photo taken with (1) built in flash (2) built in flash with tissue. My understanding is that there shouldn't be any difference between the 2.

Yes, you are right, it will be quite fine if taking normal size flower pictures(I.e., orchid), but if the plan is to take pictures of insects(i.e. Bees, Ladybird),
correct me if I'm wrong, at least a closeup filter(+2) are required to boost up the magnification. :)

BTW, how do you guys able to get close to those dragonfly?
:D

Thanks

you have to ask them nicely and sign a contract with them ;p

kidding.... you will find lots of dragonflies resting and posing for you when you visit Botanic Gardens.
