Don't get me wrong, I really love some China cities. Beijing is nice, Shanghai ok lah.... Zhang jia jie and Jiu Zhai Gou are fantabulous. Some Chinese gals are nice.
The Maglev and CRH trains are nice (other than the crash).

But then.... You know I know.... milk, eggs, chopsticks. Yeah go smell the disposable chopsticks. Most Singaporeans are dying a slow death actually. There was a video on the manufacturing process...but it got taken down. Formadehyde etc etc....

agreed that the maglev was really one of a kind experience, still can remember my trip on it.

Thanks for the report. Not the first and neither will it be the last.

Had several personal encounters during engine test runs whereby safety protocols were violated within the vicinity of the engine inlet suction hazard area and engine exhaust jet blast hazard area. It's always easy to lose your concentration or focus amongst all the chaos and just a single misstep can mean the difference between life and death thus it's always paramount to watch out for each others back but alas, normalization of deviance is also always in play.

The aerospace MRO industry along with many others can be said to be always fraught with danger. My personal experiences include...

• getting electrocuted numerous times,
  
  
• getting burned by touching operational UHF/VHF antennas,
  
  
• being irradiated directly in front of an operational weather radar,
  
  
• getting my hands crushed by a 150 kg closing fuselage passenger door,
  
  
• having Skydrol hydraulic fluid sprayed into both eyes (ultimate pain experience),
  
  
• slipping down the airstair, maintenance platform or on random patches of avfuel and lubricants. Etc... Etc...

At the end of it all, it's just another day at work. :bsmilie:

This incident happened in Sabah, East Malaysia. I was there during CNY. The fireworks that size cost around RM50-100 depending on supplier. Not sure it is illegal or not but when 12am on the CNY its fireworks everywhere... north south east west, for around 30 minutes... too bad never bring camera and tripod out :bsmilie:

The guy was a friend's cousin. He lighted that piece, but it never go off for sometime, then he went in front and look down at the metal tube from above and the fireworks set off... Previously have hands blown off by crackers, "chung tian pao" fly up and come down and explode at the guy's neck, then all got ban, recently government allow small fireworks, then last 2 years people got greedy and it become this shell thing.

Johnjon, if i am not wrong the types of fireworks that are allowed by law in Malaysia is the same as Singapore. 1. Sparklers. 2 Pop Pops (trick noisemakers).

Enforcement.... well.... I wonder who in SG has the balls to let off even a small finger sized firecracker in the heart of Orchard Road, with so many CCTVs.

I think the enforcement in SG is good. Won't be long for someone try to launch the shell horizontally instead of vertically.

ed, I was talking to my Beijing tour guide just 3 weeks ago, the TVCC fire was coz the CCTV themselves authorised the firing of professional based 1.1G and 1.3G fireworks. If i did not hear wrongly it was like S$200k worth. These fireworks should not have been brought past the 5th ring expressway. CCTV employees themselves ignored the advice of the police even. Of course in the end, scrape goats have to be found to take the blame, and they arrested the makers of the said fireworks, the folks transporting them etc. (the tour guide said that is bullshit)

In the first video, you could see some of the 8 or even 10" shells. Crazy huh....that's in the friggin city. You can see that they are in between the TVCC building and the buildings in the background. Cakes with 9 x 3" shells or even 4 x 4" shells (big big boxes needing 2 pax to carry, 1 pax simply cannot haul it around) is not unheard of and they fire them in multiples.


Another gung-ho country is Taiwan.


When you have experienced all these fireworks, you see the stuff in Singapore also go ZZzzzzzz....

This one?... they used industrial sulphur and smoked the chopsticks with it... They are polished with paraffin wax, which contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs).

Some are cooked in industrial hydrogen peroxide and tetrasodium diphosphate for bleaching... the latter containing heavy metals.

I never never use disposable chopsticks and have not used them in years. Use at your own risk.
