the 'unbloomed' flower at the back seems to draw away my attention from the main one though...

i see. i set the aperture to F/29, in hope of keeping the whole flower in focus. i guess it had the background rather sharp as well. ......might be a bit distracting from the subject itself? experimented with diff lighting n was pondering whether the overall effect is nice or not.

Put the foreground further from the background or the other way around.

Then you can blur the background with nice color

thanks. yah a natural blur could have blended the different shades of purple into a natural gradient. darn. didnt think of that. hmm, learn from experience!
