1x = 150KB/s

UltraII has 9MB/s write speed mean it have around 60X
Extreme3 (the new extreme) has 20MB/s mean it have around 133X
Lexar has 80x and 40x mean it have around 12MB/s and 6MB/s

but as i know the fastest card reader Cardbus and IEEE1394 only can write at a max speed of 6MB/s (40X)

so why do we need anything more then 40X ???

why would ppl spend so much on a ultra high speed card ???
they have too much money to spend or i miss out anything here ???

:embrass: the write speed is for the writing of picture into the card from the camera, not using any card reader.
for sport or action photography, you need to write to the card very fast, so you will not miss any shots.
:embrass: just my 2 cents worth, please correct me if i'm wrong.

Those are speeds for coping files to your PC. What the photog cares about is camera buffer to CF card write speed. Every camera is different....you need to look at Rob Gailbraith's database.

I think you are definitely missing out something. Where did you get the fastest card reader or 1394 Firewire to be 6MB/s?

There are so many fast peripherals like 16X DVD writers, 52X CD-R writers, portable HDDs for USB and firewire. There is much room for improvement.

2100 is rite. Even today's standard USB 2.0 card readers can theoretically reach the 480Mbps (=60MB/s) transfer rate if the bus on your PC or Mac is not doing anything else. Even then, you should be able to get at least 1/3 of that transfer rate.

r52lanc,

how to go to the Rob Gailbraith's database?? Thanks for sharing
