Me newbie here wanna know more info abt AD Wedding photography.
Current equipment I hv:
- D70s
- 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5
- SB600

Intend to get a TAMRON 90mm Macro, is that necessary?
Or shd i get 50mm f/1.8?

Pls advise. Thks.

Get 50m 1.8. Will be useful under low light condition. In AD wedding, you won't have much space to move/play around.

50mm gives you a range close to 80mm, which is good for portraits.

it depends on ur style or shots

u may or may not need macro lens.

most do macro shots of the rings, or the little gifts during dinner

Don't think so.

Seriously, which stuff is so small that you need a macro? Can't really think of any. :D Rings? Nah....
Rings I have taken with 12-24 @ 12mm even. :D

Usually you need to provide about 400-600 good pix for a regular 10-12hr wedding, more if it's split day + additional hours. The max I have shot is 875 pix for a 19-hour in total wedding. Where got time to play macro? :bsmilie: Besides your kit lens can focus at about 39cm if i am not wrong. Enough at 70mm lar. Always change lens drop then you know. :)

u need macro, just shoot raw and crop later lor..

the kit lens is good enuff for AD shoot, can add a spare digicam as spare just in case..

like arttl have said.. get a 50mm f1.8 and buy a BR-2A to use as reverse macro lens.

so u see it's quite versatile, 1 lens and both usage.. ;p

Many thanks for sharing.
Actually, i'm going to do the shooting for my friend's wedding.
Very 'kan cheong' leh...

Any more tips?? ;p

enjoy the shoot and it will be fine

when in doubt use P mode
always acceptable

Lollipop, you can choose to shoot in RAW when in doubt and those tricky situations when you cannot afford to chimp and check, and those instances which cannot screw up. For eg, opening of car door by boy, groom kissing bride, march-in, pouring champagne, VIP table photo taking, both sides parents taking grp pic. Screw them up and you are dead kinda stuff.

I shot a fly on the wedding cake with a 50mm macro. :)
hehe.....

you don't NEED a macro lens for wedding.

i prefer, and do use, a WA with a very short min focus distance. that usually suffices for "macro" shots.

Many thanks for sharing. I'm getting myself a 50mm lens. :)

Now I worry the "food presentation" part (on wedding dinner,
after the bride & groom march-in). Usually lights are turned off.
I shoot without flash with 50mm at f/1.8 (max), 1/60?
1/30, I'm afraid i got shaky hands, not confidence.

i should think that u need flash

when the wedding? can i go as a backup? :)

U as backup or PRO, bro?
Me got no money to hire you leh.. :bsmilie:
Btw, this non-paid one hoh...

Use flash, not weird meh?? :dunno: When the flash light up,
I think everybody will be looking at me. So pai seh...

You mean the couple didn't get a main AD photographer, and only leave you to the job? OH manz, you seriously need confidence and probably need some back up just in case. And yes please use flash. Otherwise your pics won't turn out nice.

Lollipop, why are you doing it? If you screw up, you lose a friend. The chances that you may screw up is unfortunately high, at least at some point. The risks are high and the price of failure is way high.

Your camera and lens are fine, no need to get the 50mm. Even if you did, in those low light situations, your 1.8 is still not fast enough.

If it is not too late, beg to back off. If not, well, take a deep breath, and just shoot. Btw, do you know the bride or the groom. If you only know the groom, well, good luck and we will pray you wont screw up too much.

I already advised them to get a pro photog.
But under budget woh...
Also warned them not to expect a good result.

As a friend, i don't wanna turn them down.
Will try me best.
