it produces a more diffused and softer effect compared to a sofen omnibounce...

bounce cards will help... on top of the diffuser....
try using a pocket bouncer??

diffuser is anything that helps to diffuse (spread out) the light from the flash so that the result is less harsh than direct flash and more pleasant. examples would be bounce card, omnibounce caps, umbrella, etc
