Hi,

Is the IXUS 330 newer (and thus better?) than the IXUS V, v2? What abt the V3? Thanks!

Difference of Ixus V2 and Ixus 330 is the 2x optical zoom of V2 and 3x optical zoom of 330.

in short,
Ixus 330 - 2MP, 3X Optical Zoom
Ixus V2 - 2MP, 2X Optical Zoom
Ixus V3 - 3MP, 2X Optical Zoom

other than this... zoom and Mp ...how abt video recording difference?? V2 is it a good camera...with manual control?

I have the v2. No complaint and is definitely good if there is no v3 to compare. Sincere advice, get the v3. (of course there are similar portable one from other blands that you may want to explore)

Forget about those movie etc. The extra resolution is what I will go for, it does make a diff for a bit $$$ without sacrificing the cigeratte size convenient.

Sincerely i don't use video recording with my v3, a waste rite?
:D

If i am not wrong, Ixus S400 has higher MP.

Ixus S400 - 4MP, 3x optical zoom
Movie images : Large: 320 x 240 (3 min)
Small: 160 x 120 (3 min)

Ixus V3 - 3.2MP, 2x optical zoom
Movie Images Large: 640 x 480 pixels
Medium:320 x 240 pixels
Small: 160 x 120 pixels

Ixus V2 - 2MP, 2x optical zoom
Movie Images Large: 640 x 480 pixels
Medium:320 x 240 pixels
Small: 160 x 120 pixels

As for Ixus 330, it is totally out of the market.
So kinda difficult for me to get the specs.

As u could note, for movies recording, V2 and V3 has larger movie images than the latest released S400. This is the only shortcomings reported by those S400 users.
(But heck this is a digital camera, not specialised camcorder. :D )

So hor, depends on what MP u wan and the optical zoom.

Price does differ, if you just want to print on 4R photos and only on rare occassions u need to print the images @ larger sizes, a V2 is suffice. Of course, get V3 for the 1MP difference, is also good.

In 4R prints, if u dun check very carefully, pictures taken by V2 and V3 doesn't differ much. But the differences will be acute if u enlarge the prints.

Anyway, it all depends on ur budget and ur requirements.
Buy what u need and what u could afford.

:D

think of s400 as the full version of the v2/v3....
u wanna buy? I hope to get it soon too...

Yes, V2 is a good camera, u need to familiarize urself with all its capabilities first though. ( well think all applies to almost everything  )

If u only handheld the camera, pictures taken outdoor with fair weather will amaze you, as for indoor, try to take with flash if handheld.(anyway, if in auto mode normally the decision by the camera itself is good enough)
Par it with a tripod, then u will do find in all situation. :D

Manual control? Well, it has iso selection, selection for long shutter, etc. But if u wan to use it as learning tool, might as well try the canon A60/A70. With MP difference, cheaper and more manual control->aperture/shutter. That is for sure.

Again, it all depends on what you want and your budget.
If u wan to take nice pictures without much hassle, and something light and beautiful (Ixus design is damn good n cool:D ), get the Ixus.

If you wan some tools for learning, try to get A60/A70 or the S series for canon digital camera.

Cheers.

Ya realized i had never really answered this question.
Ixus V is long long time ago.
V2 and Ixus330 is released ard the same time, Now Ixus 330 is already out of the market, whilst V2 will soon follow suit.

The successor of V2 is V3, then followed by the latest S400.

Hope this answer ur question.

Cheechee. agree with ALMOST all your points!

additonal comments:

1 Agree with our comment on print quality. But people are such that you will always end up looking for the slight 'imperfection' in your 2M printed picture and give you that unshiok feeling. I also have a G1 and sometimes, out of no reason, I use the 2 cameras and take the same scene and then zoom up to trigger that unshiok feeling.

2. The S400 is of the same size as the S330 (if I am not wrong). This is slightly bigger than the v2 and v3. Again personal preference; v2/v3 make it so convenient as a P n S anytime camera!

My slightly difference in opinion.

Generally I will resist the temptation to buy if I cannot afford now. For these hi-tech gadgets prices is always dropping and capability is always going up.

Hehe... Actually No slight difference in opinion lar, i also agree with your point on resist the temptation. Hi-tech gadges sucks in resale values, that is why i still decide not not sell my v3 and let my gf use it instead.
As for now? Stick to my trusty eos50 (YEAH! FIlm is not dead~~YET???)

Hhehe.. as for the print quality, yes we always have an urge to compare things, but actually it is not the MP that makes the differences, other factors had to be counted in too.

Surprisingly the shots taken by my gf with V3 still outbeats my shots with the v3 in terms of image sharpness:embrass: .

And after a while i realized, it is the situation where those shots were taken, she always insists on taking shots under bright sun light

Just take nice shots with full details with ur v3 and G1, under bright sunlight. Then print them in 4R and show to others, my wild guess is they wun know which is which if u never tell them.

Cheers. :D

Hi,

Thanks for all the useful replies and info :D

I've found the info page for the 330... http://www.canon-asia.com/products/digital_cameras/digiixus330.html

It seems to me that the specs are not much different from the V2, except of cos, the V2 is slightly smaller in size.

Would u recommend the 330, V2 or A40?

In any case, does anyone know the prices for the above 3 cams?

Thanks!

i do believe that V3 is better than V2 in 1 Mp , ad also some video recording rite?
V2 can only record up to 30 secs while V3 up to 3 mins.
So u mean that both cam will have difference if i devbelop out a 4r photo even though they use the same resolution?

If you have the moola, go for the latest of course, i will get the Ixus 400 if i have the $$$..
But again, it all depends on what u need and what ur budget is..
If budget is a constraint, get a v3 instead.
Yes, the 1MP difference really says something, if u r conscious abt the 1MP difference, get a V3 and not V2 or Ixus 330.

If you think you need the extra 1x optical zoom, then go for 2nd hand Ixus 330.
(just observe the 2nd hand market and u would be surprised @ the cameras sold)

As for brand new prices, u can go to
Cheershere for a guide, and get quote from respective shops.

Hope this help. :D

just went AP today... 770 for s400 and 295 for casign.. think I'm overquoted... but s400 no stock
MScolor is 745 for the cam and 285 for the case, quoted 2 days back
