Difference between Circular and Linear Polarisers

What's the difference?

I know that generally, circular polarisers are like 1.5-2x the cost of a linear polariser.

So, whats the difference? Will we see a difference?

A more indepth explanation is welcome.

So, I assume for digital cams a Linear Polariser will do?
