Can someone explain the different types of metering in SLR cameras? what's centre-weighted etc??

Center weighted metering does not take average of whole image. The center portion is given more weight, and the ratio of center to side is about 3:1.

spot is not necessarily always just the focus area, especially in the case of SLRs with multiple AF areas. usually the spot metering area is denoted with a small circle or square in the centre of the viewfinder.

spot takes the reading just from this small area, thus can be useful for more precise exposure.

it should be centre weight AVERAGE which means more focus is given to the centre
