came across this article in Sunday New Paper today

below is the excerpt:
When they saw the online advertisement for part-time models, the young wannabes felt it was their way into the glamorous world of runways and fashion shoots.

Add to that the prospects of earning up to $700 for each assignment, and it was too much for Sara and Karen to resist.

What the young women didn't realise was that the "modelling agency owner" who auditioned them was a fake.

By the time he was exposed, they had not only posed nude for him, but also had sex with him based on the promise of more jobs.

Last month the bogus modelling agency owner, Tan Eng Hwa, 35, was jailed four years on charges including cheating and criminal intimidation.

I wish that such vultures didn't exist, giving photographers a bad name.
Sigh...

no leh,
he is 'model agency owner' wat :)

Oh... Ya didn't see that. But the New Paper story on it showed a guy photographing a shy girl
in skimpy clothing. Probably that was a staged shot for the story.

I assume this "modelling agency owner" was also the photog, coz he ended up with nude photos
of the 'models'.

Hmm...sometime back they made so many HK movies about this kind of thing...haiz, dun these ppl watch TV?

According to the wanbao article, it is more like a case of non-fulfillment of payment for services offered.

If the "victims" don't attract to this kind of money, the predator would not have a chance, no matter whether or not he is a photographer or model agency owner. It is not as if the man force onto them or used drugs. Perhaps one difference between the victims and the workers in geylang is that the geylang workers expected only money in return while the victims expected money AND Fame.

i think there was another article about another photographer who took nude shots of a girl, who later on regretted it. i can't remember exactly but i think she asked the photographer to return the photographs and he agreed.

later on, she found her photographs on a social escort website.

upon contacting the photographer he blamed it on his assistant.

after the new paper contacted this photographer, his facebook page was removed. probably by himself.

it takes both hands to clap.

the predator remains a predator, and while the girls had no small part in the resulting nonsensical outcome.. it remains true that there are loads of such predators out there.

some don't even use money, they use the fact that young girls crave attention, or sweet talking. some are even married parties. i think as much as we would like to be objective, this remains a photographers' community, and i for one would like to think that we would prefer to focus on cleaning our own house instead of pushing the blame to the "victims", since the latter can only be educated.

Like you said, it takes 2 hands to clap. And the predator remains a predator.

But sometimes, the victims presented themselves on a platter to the predator, lured by the promises of fame and cash.

In a sense, this is a more of a photographic community rather than a photographer's community, I guess. And while photography is not restricted to portraits, excluding the person behind the camera, the models very much remains the only subject that can actively participate in the forums (Birds and Bees can't read and type). And we shouldn't exclude them from being a part of the community, isn't it?

So, the forum perhaps can try to promote the correct values. Like not using flesh to attract the flashes of fame. But still, to each his/her own. Some may not heed the advises, until they failed to receive payments then cry fraud.

what i'm saying is that, majority of the people here are photographers.

we can all do our part, not just restrain ourselves, but also:

i) educate
ii) expose

in the long run, with such an attitude taken, such will only lessen in degree and frequency.

Yup I read about that too. Can't remember if it's the same photog.
Anyway, I'm surprised that the girl could be coerced into having sex with the guy as part of 'training'... woah... so gullible meh?

 well put in 2 simple words expose, educate.

if there are idiot photographers who do stupid stuff, there will be idiot models who are stupid enough to fall for it. anything tat sounds too good to be true usually isnt. unless ur lucky. like striking 4d for instance.

his name sounds familiar... think some of regulars might have heard of him before.
