Developing 8R

Hi all,

Any idea after we have finished edited our raw file, when we are exporting the raw to jpeg for printing 8R , what dpi value or setting do we need to put in? I have developed 4R and so far the quality is good , but after I send the same jpeg for developing 8R, all my photos are blur


Current environment
Photoshop CS4 and lightroom 2.6
4288x2848 (12.2MP)
DPI value 400 pixel/inch
Depth : 8bit channel
Format:JPG
quality:10 (Maximum)

when you print the photo smaller, it will appear to be sharper than it is, if it isn't.

it is entirely possible that your original image was blur, but when resized to 4R it was not detectable by the eye, depending on your own personal standards.. anyways.

if you could post a 100% crop of the area that you deem to be "not sharp", this would give a better idea of whether this is the case. if you are entirely sure that what you have done is right, read these to learn what to resize. note that you could have easily found this via googling "printing 8r clubsnap"

most labs accept 240ppi, but we give 300ppi for easy calculation, a 8R only need 2400x3000, your images far bigger than these, highly possible that your images is not sharp at all.

Many thanks guy for the advices, btw i will try to resize my pic to 2400x3000 and gif it a try.

what is the point of resizing it? what am I telling you is the images size which you use far more than enough for a 8R print, the problem most likely is in the images itself.

you should check the sharpness of the original images first, if it is not sharp, you can only get away with small 4R prints or just live the blury 8R print.

resize it will not improve it. add a lot of USM may help a little, but it looks fake for most of the case.
