i think the cost can really vary based on where you do it, and the route of doing it, and how much correction is needed.

for example, if there is recommendation to do braces for more than pure aesthetic reasons, i.e. seriously needing correction for dental health; via referrals, etc.. then you can save on this.

the trouble is, the last i remembered, NDC waiting list for braces was pretty long. read somewhere, something like 3 years?

other than that, i think ntuc does it too at a comparatively lower rate, then there are private orthodontists.. which should be the most expensive.
