December Hong Kong trip

Going to hk mid next month, so would like to have more advise on which locations to go and where to eat good delicacies, especially with a child.

We would be staying 2 mins walk from Tsim Sha Tsui station.

Period of stay: 5 days

Also, what are the stuff recommended to buy as gift over there? Any camera stuff that are cheap too?

Gears to bring:
D80, 17-50, sigma 18-200, sb600, tripod.

Are the lenses and equipment good enough? Or how can i alter but keep light? Dont mind changing lenses just for the trip alone, as i want to make it memorable for our family with decent shots.

6 days trip..im staying in nathan rd, heading to disneyland for my gal. ocean park as well.
i will try the seafood bazaar at lei yu mun.
heading to macau for a day trip.
and going to peak is most definitely..

I am also going to HK mid Dec. And yes, the camera stuff are cheaper there. Just be aware of grey sets though. I am planning to get Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 there.

and going to peak is most definitely..

I prefer tokyo disney though. Hk disney is smaller in terms of size and rides.

There is a chance for me to place a day of shen zhen day tour too, not sure if its a good idea.

Victoria peak is a nice place with a bird eye view of hk city, but will be misty. Good place for photo taking too. Oh, dont forget the tripod!

I'll be there Dec27-30 and doing Disneyland and Ocean Park as well. Haha. Seems like a popular destination this Xmas.
Am contemplating just bringing a S90. Wondering if I really want to carry a dslr with a 18-200 lens inside the 2 parks (ok, maybe in Ocean Park it'd be good to have more reach)

of course the tokyo is better..florida even better...
since going to HK for 6 days, i am sure kids will enjoy the park..and they probably wont be able to differentiate hk to jp or USA...

As where u be staying, u can eat at fast food. There are some mid market restaurants where they have children's seats.

Hong Kong roasted goose is a must.

No need to go any particular restaurant.. just keep a lookout for restaurants with roasted goose hanging in front of the kitchen glass (like our chicken rice hawker stalls here). Hong Kong's roasted duck aint too bad either.

A walk down 'loi yan gai' (women's street) at night is also enjoyable if you like the 'pasar malam' feeling..

i always go to time square... and for good food, try this porridge store at causeway bay, it's called "zhi zhou chang le".

closes at 3 am, open at 7. very nice soya bean, and porridge.

another cha chan ting is also at causeway bay, it's called "tsui wah cha chan ting", quite famous ard the area.

A good, reputable camera shop in HK is Tin Cheung Camera. Definitely cheaper than Singapore. It's not easy to find, though. It's in Tsim Sha Tsui area too, but I forgot the exact address. You can google it, though. They have a website.

If you're traveling with a child, maybe Macau is not a good destination, because children cannot enter the casino floor. Not even babies in stroller. About restaurants, the most famous is the Jumbo seafood thingy restaurant (I forgot the exact name), but they have a branch in Singapore lol. From my experience, all restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui suck. You may wanna look at other areas for good restaurants. I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help about restaurants lol. My primary objective when I go to HK is shopping lol.

My limited observation, at wing shing / man shing, generally, their price is about 8-10% cheaper then the price in Sg (after GST) (for Canon).

Some more expensive lens will be cheaper in HK compare Sg.

Tin Cheung is located in Carnavon Rd, about 4 min walk from TST MTR exit A2. It is off the main road of Nathan Rd.

Walk on Nathan road towards the sea direstion (not the Mongkok direction), turn left into Carnavon Rd, immediate in front you will see a big sign board of Tsui Wah (翠&#21326, further down less then 1 min walk you will found Tin Cheung

From my experience, all restaurants in Tsim Sha Tsui suck. You may wanna look at other areas for good restaurants. I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help about restaurants lol. My primary objective when I go to HK is shopping lol.

Partially agree TST no good food. I felt that when I first visit HK.
I just found Tsui Wah (翠&#21326 got a shop in TST, just a few shops beside Tin Cheung. Food no bad.

Maxim Palace (at the "Old" City Hall) for weekend Tim Sum. Do go early to avoid ending up having Lunch instead. Went there last month, just my Wife & myself. Managed to find MAXIM Palace ONLY around 1030 a.m. Ended up with a table only around 1145 a.m. So ended up having BRUNCH instead.. Cheap and good. The 2 of us must have ordered at least 15-18 different items, and paid around HKD 400+. This was done in 2 hours+ (so it was a slow and long lunch).

haha, im from hk. you have to try my dad's restaurant. the food culture there is super different from sg. people there eat a lot a lot. and the price are more or less same as sg, of course depending on the class of food you eat. you have to try my dad's restaurant. its called yeh lam kwok restaurant. western, pretty much close to kenny rogers but i guarantee you a full stomach. hehe, theres one outlet in carnavan road. in cantonese its kar lar fun do. honestly that street is quite hard to locate and there aren't really much significant buildings to locate. anw as the chinese say, lu zai kou zhong. wish you luck! and oh, as for dim sum, don't try looking for a good one, you will end up with a long long list. typically dim sum stores are all up to standard cause its very strict in hk. the people there are picky eaters, so stores that can sustain long are mostlikely not gonna disappoint you. have fun in hk!

ahh where's your dad restaurant located in? Maybe if there is a chance I could pop over?

Also, it should be close to winter during mid dec, any winter wear shops to look out for?

I intend to go there to buy instead of SG as its always over-priced here. Best is there are both males and females outer winter clothings/ jackets, as well as for kids.

Are there any fashion street/ stores for teenagers? Might need to get some when we are back as gifts.
