yea.. heard it over 93.3 this morning news..

but i favour Rafale and Eurofighter more than F-15...

Eurofighter is still an unproven new tech aircraft. Beside that, they are having problems delivering the aircrafts on time. Huge logistical problem they are facing right now. Just like Airbus 380.

hmmm we never buy new right? it's always 2nd hand (field proven) frames. And then our STEngrg (now DSTA) will try to upgrade the stuff in 2 gens (1 gen "test" 1 gen "improved")

anyway thought F15s are long range fighters, how come no tomcats (short range+carrier)? heh imho F22s are unproven (uncontested) tech as yet, so wun sell and wun buy anyway.

whatever happened to the B2 and F117?

Correct me if I am wrong, US will never sell Tomcats to anyone. It's one of thier best craft...

I saw a few flying around SG b4, what a sight.

We need B1
Stealth Bombers are still classified technologies. And if we do acquire it, imagine the political fallout.

Of cos, who really needs Stealth Bombers when all we need are Nuclear Technology, tons of moola to buy back X'mas Island and install a nuclear tipped ICBM? :)

Maybe we can relook at our Defence Policy again. Pull it back to the 80s where they have this 'Poison Shrimp' policy. Ignite the WWII Kamikaze spirit into every single Citizen Soldier. I think that will do the trick.

US did sell a couple (24?) of F-14s to Iran.... But after the govt was overthrown, all support was off. Iran used the powerful radar of the Tomcats as AWACs platforms for a while. It is believed that the lack of spares has grounded the entire fleet. The Iranian Tomcats are painted in camo brown.... quite unique...
:)

yeah "remember" seeing F14s in Iran... lol in a flight sim!
SAE has f14s too iirc...
AAMRAMs mean that F15s no need to fly around lah, just sit and cover the island from the centre LOL

Just imagine the layers of rings on the onion, the core as the island of Singapore, each layer is "taken care" by each different layers of defensive weapons. The outer layer by F-15s due to long range capability, followed by F-16's / F-5's, then Ihawks, then Rapier, then RBS-70's, 35mm guns, finally shoulder fired missiles vice versa.

F14s are primarily Carrier Defense craft meaning their main task is to protect the carrier fleet providing air cover. If Im not wrong, they only have air to air strike capability. With the Phoneix missile able to reach ranges of 60 over km. Basically smash you out of the sky before you even know they are there.

Maybe its for other... Black Programmes?

Who knows? Maybe ST Aerospace and DSTA are already building a combat capable Mecha with the following specs:

- Titanium-hardened cockpit and hull
- Bullet, rocket and shatter-proof glass
- 20mm Gatling Canon on front
- 200mm calibre gun main rifle
- 105mm calibre gun sidearm
- Rocket mounted on right shoulder for flattening ground objects
- SAM mounted on left shoulder for engaging Air targets
- A 360-degree all-round, all-viewing radar system
- Walking speed can exceed 100km/h
- Internal self-destruct system wired to a nuclear power core
- Double layered Phase Shield system for rear protection
- All-weather capable

Actually the F-14D Super Tomcats are able to carry bombs like the Strike Eagle...
:)

AFAIK, no Phoenix actually shot down an enemy plane... all kills attributed to Sparrows and Sidewinders...

The radar can track 24 targets and engage 6 with all 6 Phoenix missiles simultaneously..... in theory. All BVR..... Incidently the phoenix missile was originally built for the YF-12A - interceptor version of the SR-71 Blackbird.... then it was to be used on the F-111 Aardvark... before finally making it to the F-14 Tomcat...

Tomcats are known to score BVR (Beyond Visible Range) Kills over all other Carrier Aircrafts with the Phoneix Missiles.

Don't forget that Klingon Cloaking technology....

Ah.. yes. How can I forget?

Include that Lamba Driver for maximum protection as well as ECS for ultimate stealth. :)

Eye-controlled missile and machine gun lock-on??;p ;p

Read it somewhere (long time ago) that a F-15 can fly to an altitude & lunge a missile to destroy satelite. Don't know true or false?:dunno:
What about the jet in the movie "The Incredible Hulk" that carried the Hulk high up into the atmosphere? Forgot the model of the plan though..

The Iranians have Tomcats. However, Tomcats are being phased out by the US Navy.

Darn, I prefer the F18 Hornet! :bsmilie:

Err.. correction, DSTA is DSTA and STEngrg is still STEngrg.

Both are 2 different bodies. One is a statutory board and the later is a GLC. ;)
