Oh sorry if the pics are not very clear as i cant find a good scanner to scan in the pics. Cheers.

is the backdrop real?? if its the real moon and stars, this is a really cool shot! :D

Haa. I wished it was the real deal. But its a back drop. It was some cultural show i was attending. :)

Cool picture.
Personally, I preferred it to be in portrait format.

I've attended a similar cultural show in Dali, Yunnan China. In fact, I've used a similar picture like this for my avatar for some time now although my pix was shot on DSLR using KM7D - the antishake was a great advantage in the low stage lights.

This is the famous Peacock Dance. The actual name is called "Spirit of the Peacock"

She has got to be one of the most flexible body dancer in China. Her name is Yang Liping. She comes from Yunnan province. She is a Bai People from Yunnan Dali Prefecture.

I saw her performance 5 times...and each time it's a different feel.

The moon is of course not real but when you attend the performance, it's just simple astonishing!

Happend to meet her in person and I was amazed how humble she was. She was consider a superstar in China. She actually came to Singapore a few years back to perform but the publicity was not that great. Recently she became a little more famous in parts of Japan, Taiwan and Korea. She is currently training 2 of her students to be her succesor.

She will be performing the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Watch out for it!

I wanted to shoot but then I thought she is an artist. So as an artist myself, I prefer to let her dance performance to be part of my memory without recording it.

About 10 years back she only perform her dance without much story to it. The one that you attended was much better as she and her creative director Jin Ling created a longer sypnosis so that people will enjoy that this performance is not about dancing only.

Thanks for the informative background Pro-image. I wasn't aware of the interesting background although my wife and I did enjoy the show very much -- it is world class performance.
I don't mean to hijack the original poster's thread, but I like to share a pix of Ms Yang in her colourful costume, shot without flash - KM7D 200APO F4 1/200s ISO400.

Hmm.....that doesn't look like Yang Liping. If you check the website that I gave she has big big eyes and she is much much slimmer than the one you showed.

This one she is on crutches with her student replacing her.

Oh oh, I mistakenly assumed the lady who did the dance was Ms Yang. Maybe it was one of her students. The "real" Ms Yang is indeed a stunning beauty. Thanks for the clarification.
