I have DA*16-50mm and a borrowed Sigma APO 50-500mm with HSM.

I was told that Sigma lens with HSM is longer in the market than Pentax which gives them an edge.

However, when I used both lens on my K20D, the DA* noise level is much quieter.

Was I making a wrong comparison with a larger lens, since larger lens requires bigger motor?

You sure the 50-500 you got has HSM? Sigma HSM is only available for Canon/Nikon users at the moment, some new HSM Sigma lenses in Penta K mount haven't been released yet.

There is no HSM mark on the box and the lens.

However, the instruction manual stated this lens ferature a built-in HSM (for Sigma AF, Canon AF & Nikon AF). For Sony AF, Pentax AF, select camera & lens to AF, but no mention of HSM.

Check Sigma home page, the barcode for Pentax AF is 00-85126-73645-3 which correspond with the box.

Called Sigma Spore to enquire how to tell if it is HSM since there are 2 versions, they also not sure and have to check with Japan.

p/s: Sigma confirmed HSM is not availbale for Pentax. This is obvious the word HSM is not presence on the lens.

I think the word is that HSM will come in Pentax, but not for now.
