Hi Pentaxians,

Will be getting a fast zoom for sports and birding but not sure whether to get the DA 300 f4 or Tamron 70-200 f2.8 or Sigma 70-200 f2.8.Have read this thread: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=495439 before but everyone seems to be recommending the TS the Nikon 80-200(Since that TS is using a Nikon).

The Sigma and Tamron seems cheap(And f2.8 too)while the Pentax is more expensive(And f4 nia).Anyone?:dunno:

TIA!:)

For birding, 200mm is not enough, get at least a 300mm. ;p

Wow cleon , din know u into tele . For sport, I suggest a zoom . So my vote go to tamron , since I'm always a tamron supporter too

Ok but i heard that the Tamron's AF speed is quite slow right?

by my experience doing sports...

the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM II is what i recommend.

that's bcos the other mounts the tamron uses a non-HSM/USM in-lens motor, so it obviously loses to nikon, canon and sigma 70-200 lenses. for pentax, the camera is driven by the body so the AF performance gap is not so much. i shoot sports with my tamron 70-200 and it's fine.

Sports, the 70-200 is better. More flexible with the zoom, fast aperture. You will probably not need longer for most sports and the fast aperture is needed indoors or for night games with stadium lights.

Birding, the 300/4 is better, but at a push. 300mm is not really enough. I would go as far as suggesting a Bigma or Bigmos.

My vote, Tamron 70-200 for sports...

for birding, get a Bigma or bigmos.

Both are back breakers. :bsmilie:

Seems like most people voted for the Tamron eh?I'll be getting the Tamron then. Thanks guys:)

just take note of the AF noise if want to use during quiet events and that the current distro is Jelcorp at Changi there. Warranty should be 3 years.

Yeah Jelcorp is quite ulu. Sigma is somewhere in Bt Merah so it's also quite ulu. Both definitely not as central as Emjay! :)

The AF noise is ok lah, it sounds louder to the photographer than to people around due to the inverse square law :) What you should be more concerned about is the lack of a focus limiter switch which might result in the lens traveling the entire focus throw if it loses focus.

Anyway, cleonbus, look forward to seeing another Tamon 70-200 user

oh yeah, since you asked about birds, i caught a few birds yesterday too but had to crop these shots. so 200mm might not be enough.
