Yeshhhhhh.... it's still on! Smiles88 posted the outting above, if wanna join juz slap your big name onboard! :bsmilie:

Btw, regarding SB900... Just curious, do you use a remote cord for it or do you just basically use it on the D90 hotshoe always? What about off camera brackets, do you have one too? Just wandering into the subject of flashes...noticed that there are a number of brands for brackets....some cheap some ex...

I've just checked the SB900 price... man, it has gone up! And heard that SB700 is a replacement model for SB600...

i actually have all listed by you . . .
1. cord
2. wireless transmitter
3. on shoe
4. off shoe (remote)

i personally don't like the cord . . . but i enjoy 2 and 3 the most. Give quite a bit of creativilty in the lightings. :)

I'm considering a number of alternatives... wireless transmit huh? Roughly how much should one be looking at?

I'm even considering the R1C1... definitely usable for Macro but primarily for product shoots. One thing I'm left wondering is, do people use it for people shoots?

I really need to play with the flash settings on my D90... have been neglecting that part! Lolz

I think if i am not mistaken, the transmitter will be around $40 or below, can't remember. But you can use the flash as slave and your pop up on D90 as main too. So you have 2 flashes to fire out at the same time too.

D90 can remotely control 2 sets of flash . . . try it . . . it is awesome.

Regarding the flash settings, I only know about the flash EV and the option to use pop-up flash as a wireless commander. The rest I don't know already. I haven't touched into flash photography yet. :embrass:

I ran out of things to play on my D90... hence... left the Flash section begging me to look at it....

Come to think of it, Flash section fairly huge actually... once you covered that, you can practically call yourself D90 enthusiast user... :bsmilie:

thanks smiles. i guess it's basically the same group poisoning each other silly, with some new "recruits" getting ready to be poisoned. err, why put the flash models after some names (like sky and zca)? is this a flash poisoning session? :bsmilie:

d90 has a built-in commander mode using the pop-up flash so i use that to trigger my sb900. or if i can borrow my friend's sb600, i use the sb900 as the commander (it's better than the pop-up as you can tilt the sb900's flash head to point directly at the slave's receiver sensor). by off-cam brackets, do you mean light stands?

if i'm using it on-cam, i always try to bounce off ceilings, walls, diffuser card, etc. more flattering that way.

i did get a chance to molest the sb700, it's size is comparable to the sb600 but more powerful GN. also more user-friendly interface than the sb600, with dedicated buttons and such.

#1 & #2 are just different methods of achieving #4. on-shoe is mounting it on the hotshoe of the camera. off-shoe can be via cord, IR wireless (nikon CLS), or radio waves (pocket wizards, phottix, etc)

you don't need to buy wireless transmitters if you're using nikon CLS-compatible speedlights with your d90. if you're looking at R1C1, that comes with the SU-800 wireless transmitter as a set. some fashion photogs have used it for commercial shoots like magazine covers. gives a nice ring catchlight as well. ;)

Wowz...that's a pretty good reason to give R1C1 a really hard look! So...if you have R1C1, you might not need other flashes like SB900 or SB700 already? Or are we talking about a different breed and uses here?

sorry krieg, might have misled you there on the catchlights. stanndard R1C1 comes with 2 sb400's only (IIRC). what i saw on the fashion photog was a lot of sb400's around the R1 frame that it's almost like a ring light.

Ouchies, that kind of setup must be at least 2 grand!... Nah..... no can do, I'm not that pro nor do I print $$$... but two flashes may look better than a single one right?....

TK has the SB900, and from what I gathered, the price is higher now...can't remember zilch exactly the figure... close to 7 hundred I believe.

Anyway, back onto D90... are most of you still on the protector screen provided in the kit? If so, I'd recommend ditching it (keep it safe) and use the GGS screen protectors (two piece kinds). Highly recommended.
