I need help from all of u pls.

I went to MBS, opposite the road, I took some shots, it is suppose to be in violet, but turn out to be blue. <I see it on the spot, and thought im too far, since im opposite the road, I took few more at bus-stop, still blue, go near to the lightings, is still taken as blue>

<At all time, the lightings I see is violet, and does not change colour by itself>

I took the taxi, the taxi colour is correct. Nothing is wrong. But the lights outside the MBS Casino captured by my D90 is BLUE instead of Violet colour.

#1 Blue to me (latest)
#2 Blue to me (Latest)
#3more violet from here(latest)
#4more violet from here(latest)- The bottom right side is the violet colour which is the real colour that my eyes see all, but in photo it is blue....(We can see that the colour is starting to change more Violet, you see the vs the first few --> is the same lightings)

Gear: Nikon D90
WB: Auto (also other WB settings, but just cant capture the violet colour
Using: Standard (also tried neutral and others, except changing temp colour)
Tripod/flash: No
Fliter: I do not have coloured-filter lens ( u can see that the taxi is that blue)

That's not because of D90, but because of limitation of camera LCD to show the correct color spectrum. That's why the purple color is shown as blue on camera LCD.

The color should be shown correctly on the calibrated monitor.

the sensor is not as smart as the human eye. you could try to play around with the WB or even try "choose colour temp".

so...hm...does this happen to top-end cameras too?

Previously I also had the same experience on the LCD of Nikon D90 and D700.

Canon (5D mark II or newer) LCD is better to show the correct purple color.

>_<" i shd get canon LOL :p thanks

The grass is always greener on the other side. No point switching. It'll be the same after a while. Live with your gears.

Back to the topic. Why do you mention the LCD at all? now even on the computer it does not show violet. I think adjust colour temp might help, or try fluorescent wb instead of auto wb.

I doubt a canon will show the 'correct' violet color as its based on the metering of the camera, and the only difference with canon and nikon, IMO, is that nikon produces slightly warmer colours, and not this kind of color casting.

Trying setting your color setting to neutral or standard. in JPG format if u use vivid, it can cause color saturation to your picture to make the color more vibrant but in doing so sometime cause the color to change.

a own experience is a cosplayer's skirt was blue but becos of my color setting was on vivid the picture i got show her skirt as purple. software use to view was nikon capture NX2, picture format RAW. The NX2 apply the in camera color setting to my raw and thus casued the JPG converted from the RAW to have the color change. when i view the RAW on picasa, which cant apply the in camera color setting the cosplayer's skirt is blue.

even if you jump ship you are likely to get the same problem. if you ask me, due to the limited specs of LCD, it only gives you a rough gaguge of the photo, for more detailed one you have to see it on a computer.

like what hotchoco1ate has mentioned, even on the computer it doesnt show violet. so what makes you think that its due to the LCD?

IMO, its not about LCD, its more of the tweaking of settings to get the right colour. like what i have mentioned eariler on, the sensor is not as smart as the human eye.

I see your photo in the monitor right now, and

are purely purple.

I saw by myself during photoshoot yesterday that purple shows purple in Canon 5D mark II LCD.

But please do test by yourself first.
I haven't persuaded you to jump to Canon, as I am a Nikon user too LOL.

The eye is usually calibrated but not the camera lcd. Download it and view on your mac. The colours should turn out the way you see it provided the monitor is calibrated.

I noticed the same problem for my D90 too, this color problem on occurs on violet colors. (I also took the same pic as TS). Is it really the LCD problem? maybe my monitor screen not calibrated, but what i did was shoot in RAW then adjust the WB on computer to get the correct violet color

hi bro, I use SD(Standard), btw, i tired netutral and other settings, beside changing temperature. The reason i did not play with temperature is that, I do not want the surroundings to change change. Camera and monitor LCD still show violet.

Ya lor....Can any other D90 users try going there(outside MBS) and try to snap it and review it if you were free? =)

I am using Windows and yet to have monitor calibrated, so what u mean is that, after monitor calibrated, I should be able to see the violet colour( As i can see with my eyes on the lightings) right?

What calibration device do u use?X-lite? Do comments if u use it.

Looks purple to me. And my monitor is not really calibrated... I just adjusted the settings according to my eyeball. Remember, most monitors are set to a much cooler color temperature out of the box.

Some updates with apologies.

Yes, #3 and #4 looks purple(which is in your links), but #1 and #2 is blue.

#1 and #2 is zoomed from distance. #3 and #4 is close-range.

What a big difference... OMG!!! Share your views ^^

the last two pic looks purple to me too leh ahaha. Maybe diff people diff colour perspective:think:. Well i do have that problem before, when shooting a purple orchid indoor in dim light. the orchid turn out blue i mean reallie blue not like yours. What i did is to adjust the WB (thou the backgrd may no be your desire). Next i shot 1 more shot with my desire backgrd colour and blend them tgt. Its troublesome, but i'm noob ahaha and there may be some better n easier way, btw if u reallie have the passion, you wont mind xtra steps. just my 2cents:sweatsm:

Looked at your #1 and #2 again. I know the problem. You problem is white balance.

You see, there are 2 major light sources in the pic. The purple lights and the street lights. The street lights are very warm. but in both your #1 and #2, the WB is corrected to make the streetlights almost white. This cool WB will remove most yellows in the entire pic and thus make your purples look blue.

IN #3 and #4, you are very close to the scene now, meaning the purple is overpowering any yellowish light source. The AWB system will thus set the WB more accurately.

The lesson to take away from here is that, you cannot expect AWB to work miracles in complex lighting situations. You are the photographer. It is up to you to get the WB to what you want and not let the camera decide. If it gets too complex, I recommend you just simply shoot in RAW and adjust WB in PP.
