Hi all ,

Compare to these 2 combos D90+18105mm vs A550+16105mm

which combo can give good IQ ? i know its brand matter but what do u all think?

price wise A550combo $100+ more

What i like:
D90combo
- len is cheap not sure about IQ
- i like D90 body to hold just the right size
- bigger viewfinder than A550 +point
- good handling menu system ( i guess )
A550combo
-of course Sony Liveview AF system ++point
-Body IS
-Auto HDR
-2mm wider
-7fps ( not necessary for me )

What i dont like:
D90combo
- Nikon lens are so expensive -point
A550combo
- Sony menu system ( no quick ways to change setting ) --point

i love tamaron 17-50 non VC . ll buy in near future. if i do, sony body IS ll help me

btw i currently own Sony A300 with kit and 50mm.

your comments most welcome!

1. Both the D90 and the A550 use sony-made sensors... And they're essentially the same
2. Image quality in both will be very good.
3. What's so hard about the sony menu system? Just hit "Fn" and you can navigate the on-screen options. It's quite easy to adjust.

since you already have the A300 with 50mm, get the A550. You could also get the A550 with the 18-250 for about the same price as with the 16-105.

Agree with bro Rashkae.

Both are very capable cams. The 'Fn' button is the most used button on my cam besides the shutter button. :bsmilie:

I loved the 16-105mm, the range and sharpness of the lens is really  This is my mostly used lens even though I have the Tamron 17-50mm. The A550 with 16-105mm would be a powerful combo.

I think you overrate something here. Since the sensors come from Sony the "brand matters" become irrelevant. What remains are lenses, in-camera settings for jpg processing, your skills as photographer and skills as image editor. For lenses there are tons of reviews available. For your skills there are courses, lessons, books and critique corner.

agree nthin perfect :)
wt i meant for sony menu is that itsn't like A700 or 40D 50D canon .. not that quick .
as for the price vs performance , i believe sony win now ..

And not to mention if ur ready to give ur wallet a slimming session in the future on investing CZ lens to ur collection hehe ;p

Since you are having A300, A550 is not too much different from it, except for:
- Better high ISO permance. (ie. ISO1600 is comparable to ISO400 of A300, YES NO JOKE)
- Better looking high resolution screen and bigger in size
- 5fps in OVF, 4fps in LV and 7fps for both OVF/LV in fast mode
- better build body (no creeking sound at the grip)
- Larger OVF (0.8x vs 0.74x)

In summary, A550 is a just a A300 body with A700 features, top up with improved ISO and bursting shot performance, of course with one of the best LV implementation.
