D70 user need help

I got a D70 from a fellow clubsnapper. I'm very happy with it. But one thing I don't understand why the speedlight SB-800 which is made specially for D70 doesn't work so well. The build-in flash works better instead. Hope to get some pointers from you guys. Thanks

Probably set to Manual Mode.

well,I use auto mode but seems "under". Switch to build-in flash seems much better. How to make them synchronise perfectly?

If you want any help, you'll first need to provide more information - "seems a bit under" isn't enough. Like what were the settings on both the camera and the flash, and some sample photos.

flash has many modes, slow rear front ttl ttl-bl. use the right mode for the right pic.

Thanks Prata. I trial & error yesterday. Seems to get somewhere. Just reallised I was ignorant.
