Hello all, me newbie here getting my 1st DSLR.

Actually wanted to settle for Nikon D5000 as it suits my budget but my colleague advised me to wait for D3100. We checked the price and it shows USD699 which translates to abt SGD1000. Will the price to really that close with D5000?

If so, I will get D3100 since with almost the same price, I can get one with better specs.

Should I wait? Itching to get my new cam liao...

IMHO - get the D3100... +/- $ is still worth it.

It will drop below $1k after the initial madness.

get D5000 if you want the articulated/swing out lcd display. good for self portrait when travelling!
that's the compelling differentiating factor.

I think D3100 should be cheaper than D5000, and the difference should be significant enough (ie not just $50).
But then D5000 has been around for quite long, so maybe... just maybe, initial prices of D3100 will be close.

I held D3000 and found that my little finger had nowhere to rest. D5000 was JUST large enough.
So for that reason alone, I'd go for D5000 vs D3000/3100.

in fact, I'd go for D90 (which I've done) :bsmilie:
