There are several post about the D40 but im still unsure about the setbacks regarding the Lens, AF-S lens only. Can someone shed some light on that? and isit in stores yet?

Please read the other threads,

Already discussed, it only works on AF-S lenses as it does not have a focusing motor on the body.

oh yeah i read about that already, but im very new to this so i was lookin for more details about the focusing motor, like what does it do.Without it , does it mean the camera would not be able to auto focus?

It means without the focusing motor, it cannot AF on a AF or AF-D lens.

AF-S lenses have focusing motors on the lens itself, so no problem there.
