What are you all riding in sunny Singapore? Are MTBs expensive?

I'm looking for a replacement for my cheapo Marin and was wondering what Hardtrail bike would you recommend? I'm going for disc brakes this time and I'm after something light.

This is cool, anyone know where to get this in local?

For me -

1994 GT Saddleback - revived with new parts
Chase - for the extremes and street riding

Well, you can take a look at Specialized / Kona's range. I'd recommend the Kona Kula. Parts wise, it's really not bad.

hi,

what's your budget?

usually light = expensive

I saw something like this at Giant, Marina Sq. Ya damn cool looking and i tried riding it at the store. :bsmilie: Chopper style, a bit not used to it.

I'm a Roadies. But since my back hub became faulty, it has been collecting dust. No mola to change.

Marin bikes aren't cheapo unless yours feels like one because it's a low-end model. But at least it's not a Urata, Aleoca, or the sort that you find in supermarkets.

I'm riding an old model of GT Zaskar. Even though it's has a 7-speed cassette and cantilever brakes, it holds up to the abuse that it gets when I go to the Bukit Timah trails.

But to answer your question, MTBs are as expensive as you want them to be. IMHO, disc brakes are not that necessary, unless you ride on wet and muddy terrain most of the time. Nevertheless, higher-end bikes are now equipped with disc brakes. And since you want a light bike, I suspect it's likely to be in the high-end ($1.8k and above), and you'll get disc brakes anyway.

I'd stick to more reputable brands (not in any order of merit):

Kona
Cannondale
GT
Giant (not to be confused with the Giant hypermart)
Schwinn
Rocky Mountain
Specialist
Marin
Trek
Gary Fisher
... the list goes on

Disclaimer:
I'm not an expert on bikes or biking, but I guess I know just enough to pick the right one for my own riding pleasure.

Bro .. don't tell me you own a black GT Zaskar  .. whatever you do. Keep it. Its better than the current generation of Zaskars - i'd die to have one of those in my collection

Two other brands you can consider are Jamis, Kinesis (hope i got the spelling right) . If you like steel bikes, On-One would be the best choice.

I'd go for the Cannondale as build is very good but it comes at a price. My suggestion is, go take a look at the Kula.

yeah.. let go street RIDE~

hehehe/e/ at nite can?? afternoon hot hot~~~ :p

Most mtb no light, must buy one like that. Before we go ( if we go) we have to consider these factor ( no offence here, we are photographer first and cyclist 2nd A) the prefer route b) Day and time C) Duration 4) Getting there 5) Leader etc. Importantly your fitness level cos those lagging behind must at least be able to know where to meet or takes alternative routes.

Anyway which is the best routes?
1) Bukit timah
2) West Coast
3) Ghim Moh canal to Juroung
4) East Coast park
5) Pasir Ris park
6) Ubin
7) Sentosa
8) Your suggestions
