Hi

Someone I know passed away recently.
Last rites have been performed, and there will
be a memorial service soon.

The deceased was a Christian.

My qn is: is it alright to give a token sum at the memorial service or will the family view it was bad luck since funeral, etc is over already.

Also - is it alright to give $300?

Was thinking of $400, but then 4 is supposed to be unlucky?

thanks guys!

any amount will do since it's a representation of your sincerity and of coz how well you know the person.

You can pass the condolence money in a white envelope to them at the service. No problem :)

Well, if you are talking about the money which Chinese call 'Bai Jin' they usually give in odd numbers for such occasions. Since they are christians I dun think they will mind whatever that you give lah.... be it odd or even.
