CS as Pornography Channel

models may have porn background, but the shots taken by you of them will tells if it is artistic nude or simply porn.

i don't think it's necessary to deny anyone the right to shoot a nude model just because she used to be a porn star; but threads which are distinctively "pornish" should be stamped out.

Actually, a lot of the photos in the portraiture sub-forum (especially those in bikinis) found their way to the SB forum.... May not be so pleasant for the photographee if they know about it...
Why do we need to be so judgemental based on someone's past? IIRC, the threads pertaining to these photoshoots have mentioned that the model is indeed a former porn star (or something to that effect, not sure of exact term used), but also clearly stated that the model has retired from the scene and will not do any pornographic-style poses.
pornstar or not, they are just a model that u shoot. how u portray them is what's important. if u portray them artistically, voila, it's artistic nude. if not, even a bikini shoot can be porn-ish.
By who's standard do we define "distinctively pornish" .... and WHO should be the ones to have the authority or power to "stamp out" ... ???
This situation is NOT sad ....What is sad .... is that you cannot see that a porn star can also do non-porn photoshoots. :nono:
Why brand them and have the stero-type just because of their occupation .... Maybe once in a while they would like to do a photoshoot where their legs are not wide open and the focus is on their beauty and expression ... NOT their other bits and parts ....
Actually I subscribe to a british photography magazine and received a brochrue on how to take
nude pictures and yet not make it porn-ish. And it did says that it's a very thin line but yet if
you really want to take it as artistic as possible, people would tend to blur things out a lot or
to really blow it up till you only see curves and shapes etc. Sometimes not using the actual
colors and instead process them with tri / dual tones would be recommended or something like
that. If what a porn star is in somewhat equates to a porn-ish thing then we would be seeing a
lot of porn on TV / Movies when Hsu Chi is in it already. haa

Although it would be easy to say that legs open and facial expression make it porn and otherwise makes it nude...I do think its often the intent, is it to explore the nude form and celebrate it, or is it to titillate those watching.
I do agree with the idea that often soft focus and cropping of face denotes one...but I think a quick measure, from years of perusing whatever magazines my father was not so good at hiding is this, think black and white.

This thread makes an interesting read to see different views of CSers on this subject. (Hey, I didn't know some of these models are porn-stars in their own right!)
My humble opinion is that we should respect diversity and respect what others do - be it the photographer or the model. This world is getting to complex for anything to be labelled black or white...or whatever degrees of grey shade (for you guys doing most b&w photography!). Seriously, if you think it is porn, it is; if you think it's not, it will be not. As long as nobody puts any degratory pics or illegal ones here, it's just fine.
We are at the stage of human development now that we can see more things in a faster way thanks to the Internet. Sometimes, certain things that we see seem to go against our moral grounds. But if you look to the ancient past, things are not much better or worse than now.
I do not have the guts to take such photos, so my respect goes to the photographers and models. Do I like them? Not necessarily. Do I object to such a subject? Sure, especially now that I have kids. But my views on this does not mean that I will exert them on others who does not share views as mine. We may have to agree to be in disagreement.
Finally, life is all about CHOICE. If you don't like anything, just look/go away.
p/s: This is my 100th CS post...and I love CS!

I know this kind of thread would come out. If you don't like it, discuss this with the admins and I am sure there will be a solution. However, I would like to bring up one thing: although there seems to be a few more such shoots coming out recently, it doesn't mean everybody can afford these shoots. If people want to take part, there won't be much frequency as it is quite costly (like me for example, it was only my second time). It is good to give our youngsters some exposure to this as an open society. I understand your worry as a parent and as an Asian. On the other hand, respect the organisers as they need to earn their keep. You can ask the admins to restrict the posting of such pics, but you cannot restrict free market. When you take away people's rice bowl, they are not going to be happy.

its just their way of earning money, same as me being a customer service, my gf being an admin clerk. its the way of life.
unless you're telling me those shoots include 'toys' and 'partners', i dont see why a shoot of a porn star cannot be a normal shoot just like you and me?
