anyone knows how to create border without "shrinking" the photos?

i used to use PS to expand the canvas and the paste the layer (photo) on it, but Gimp does not allows that (or i do know abt it).

PS needs a high ram to operate smoothly, unfortunately mine is only 384ram, so decided to use Gimp instead.

I'm not sure about Gimp 2.0. In Gimp 2.2, you can expand the canvas (Menu: Image/Canvas Size) - I just tried it.

oh tks for the info, didn't realised that 2.2 has been released.

Another method to add borders that is arguably even better is to create a large "background" image and place your picture in a layer on top. This has the advantage that you can play with the background/frame and change the placing of your picture without messing it up.
