I intend to take up DSLR photography soon and am looking at either the Canon 40D or Sony 350. I own a Tamron 80-20mm conventional len with a 2x converter, with a Pentax mount, from the film era. Can this len be used with DSLR, if I were to change the mount to suit the camera? Any recommendation where to send the len and converter for cleansing? How much would it cost? Thanks.

For your lens, there might be a metal lens mount adaptor for it,
But the trade off is that you'll lose your auto-focus

So what I would do is to sell off that lens, and get a newer one, for the respective mount
Or even better, get it off the BnS =)

Sending your lenses for claning, try checking around in the "services offered" thread,
I recall some people offering lens cleaning services

80-20mm? Conventional lens? :dunno:
