Contax N Digital discontinued

According to Robgalbraith's site, the Contax N Digital has been discontinued.

A sad demise for what is/was arguably the first full-frame digital SLR.

Anyone used this cam before? Is the AF system RF or normal AF?

How was it rated?

The body & lenses are very expensive!

Not the least bit surprising in my opinion.

With the other makers churning out a new digital SLR every few months, with a hell lot more pixels, better specs to tackle noise etc and lower prices, the ND would naturally not be able to keep up in the very near future. Also, I don't think that there are many Contax N users out there to begin with.

In any case, the D30 did probably did not last that long either, and I won't be surprised if this is not the last we hear of digital cameras with short product life cycles, and the beginning of fewer production runs for certain digital camera models.

Well the current news is that this may not be accurate - about the discontinuement.

The AF on this is biased for accuracy over speed. Any ways like all USM type lens you could always just manual to rough focus and let the camera's AF to fine tune it.

Have several test files using this body and the 2nd level standard zoom. The picture quality is hot hot hot - have files in bloody jpeg that show details and the accuracy and richess of colour straight out of camera that make this mouth watering - pity that was a demo unit .

Main problem is the cost - at moment all full frame bodies are on the costly side. The Kodak's and the Cannon are not that much cheaper.

There is a lack of fast lens but then I doubt if this was designed for a PJ in mind. Suspect at low light levels the CZ lens will outperform the fast focal length equalivalents from other makers.
