Hi Hi,

Read some old posts about the compact flash cards and I'm just wondering how many photos (rough estimate) can be taken with a 256MB CF compared to a 128MB CF?

Thanks. :p

I think that depends on your camera settings, such as the resolution, compression rate, the settings vary with every camera.

For my camera, if I set the image size to 1600*1200 at a compression rate of 1/4, each image takes about 700k+.

It's best that you look at your manual for a more accurate figure for your camera.

256 is exactly double a 128, so it can hold exactly 2 times as many! :devil:

As suggested however how many will fit depends upon the resolution and compression setting of the camera... What camera did you have in mind?

Hi there, I'm using a Canon A40.

I'm deciding whether to buy a 128MB or 256MB CF card. So I'm checking the number of images that can be stored in the 2 CF cards...

Aiya, of coz I know its 2 x lar.. :p

The Canon A40 if I recall is a 2megapixel camera.. In best quality it should produce a picture about 700k - 800k (You millage may vary)... As such...
128MB = Aprox. 160 Shots
256MB = Aprox. 320 Shots

Personal suggestion would be buy the largest you can afford/justify. You will no doubt upgrade the camera at some point in time.. The 64MB cards I was using on my 2megapixel Nikon 950 really are useless on my new 6megapixel S2... Even a 128 is quite Limited... Buy Big...

I see. Thanks for the info. ;)

I guess a 256MB CF card is a better buy then. =)

I'll most probably won't upgrade my camera so soon, perhaps next year after June.. due to limited budget..Hate being a student.. :p

How much is a 256 CF card? Where can I get it cheapest? Heard people talking about CP and AP. I know AP is Alan Photo at SLS. But where is CP? I prolly won't go to AP coz I'm really a super-newbie..so dun wanna get conned or something.. Where sell CF cards cheapest? Does brand matter a lot?

Pardon me for asking so many question.. :embrass:

Canon A40

128 MB can give u 191 shots (1600x1200) or 420 shots (1024x768)

so 256MB shud be able to store double...

Ummmm.. You know AP in SimLim
CP = Cathay Pacific. They have a couple location. I have only been to the one at Penisular Plaza near Funan.
Other shop I would suggest is John 3:16 in Funan.... Good honest people and very friendly!

Don't buy ultra cheapo brand of cards.. Brands such as PQI and Mr. Flash come to mind.. They may work in one camera, but not another etc etc..

Stick with namebrands.. Sandisk, Lexar come immediatly to mind. A good cheap and fast brand that I would recommend is RiData.. Can be bought at John 3:16 not sure about other shops. Guessing on the price.. Would say 128mb = about $100. 256mb = about $170...

Good luck..

Hi Jeff, thanks for the info, I'll give them a call tomorrow to check out the price..

Called John 3:16 today and they quoted me $200 ;(

CP quoted a lower price at $160. :)

Should be buying one this weekend after my exams. ;)

Make sure they are quoting the same thing. Not all flash cards are created equal! Cathay and John 3:16 around about 3 minutes walk from each other.. As well as Memory world... Just head down and check them all out :)
