Hi,

I will be visiting Europe in two months time and I hope to take very nice landscape pictures for memories.

I'm intending to buy a new compact camera.
However, I cannot decide which camera to buy.

Can anybody suggest me a very cool camera?

I have read reviews from Cnet.

So far most of the recommendations is Canon Ixus 850.
But what I dun quite fancy is the control buttons at the back of the camera.
And also I read reviews from dpr mentioning that pics have too much noise. too blur.
But I like the wide lens(does wide lens means can take better outdoor pics?) and auto face detection.

But these few days there are a lot of advertisement about this new Canon Ixus 70 and 75.
The price of these two are cheaper than the current selling price of Ixus 850.
But ixus 70 and 75 is of newer models. So does that mean Ixus 70 and 75 is of poorer quality than 850 since they're cheaper?

So far I only compare between Canon 850/70/75 and Casio Z1050.
Is Casio Z1050 good?

And also, I dunno how many pixels to get in order to have very sharp resolution of photos.

Can anybody give me some ideas and recommendation for a good compact camera?

My budget is less than $800.

Appreciate your kind advice

Thanks

I personally will get the Canon IXUS 850 IS.
It starts from 28mm, which is wider than the Casio Z1050 which start from 38mm.
The wider lens will definitely more suitable for landscape.
The IS (image stabiliser) is also useful.

Go down to a camera shop and try out some models you have shortlisted.
Choose the one you like best.
Once bought your new camera, read up on the manual and go shooting.
Start early, get familiar with your new camera.
Hope you will get nice pics from Europe.
Cheers !!!

Recommended the Canon Ixus 850 IS

I brought it for less then $600 with 2GB SD card and a 3rd party battery. :what:

I have some photos taken during my trip to Genting, can check my gallery .. :embrass:

Recommended is f31fd. Picture quality is far more better than Ixus850. IF u have to choose between canon and casio, never go for casio.

All P&S cameras have problems with noise.

I have seen 850 IS pictures, I'm not sure if DP review said that it had blur pictures, but I doubt so. Focus problems should be on the IXUS 900Ti, not 850 IS. =)

I agree all cameras have problems with noise. But F31fd has lower noise as compared to other cameras.:)

Fuji F31 is very good. Especially in low light situations. Otherwise, you may want to consider getting a prosumer instead. The Sony H series are good.
