common lens used for street photography

pls allow me to post here... for candids n streets, wat lens do u all usually use?

Depends on how close you DARE to go up to the subject.

If you dare, you can even try a fisheye.
If you don't then snipe using long lenses...s

i dun believe in sniping from far

ps: u can consider lomo for street shots besides ur normal SLR system =)

I usually use my 50-150mm Sigma lens for such purpose. But if I happen to have my 17-55mm Nikon lens on then I will try to get close to subject by pretending to shoot elsewhere and then make a quick snap shot... hehe...

gets u great closeups! with a super shallow DOF! great for subject isolation...

Nikon's 18-70 / 50mm prime.
You can consider a 35f2 as well.

Actually its better to use a ultra wide angle lens for candids if you are not too brave. You can point at something else and have your intend subject inside the frame. Then crop to liking. That is provided you got enough megapixels.
