1. your pic is in the center of the photo, generally you follow the rules of thirds, but of course you can choose to break that rule sometimes...
you can try to recompose your pic better

2. your object is ? you have to have something of interest for the person viewing your pic... otherwise it appears like a snapshot...

3. try and play around with the shutter speed and aperature settings to understand the concept of DOF, etc before you spend on a DSLR....

4. knowing what you like to shoot can also help to decide on what lens you want to get should you buy a DSLR
eg landscape, people, street photography, macro, etc....

:)

Hi Littlewolf, it is possible to paste the picture here without using the URL, please follow this link http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=94574 and you can know how to paste image here as I do now, enjoy
Ok, here's the relevant quote from the FAQ that you're pointing to (emphasis addded):

Over in the Forum, you can now insert (hotlink) the image into your post/thread by:
a) clicking on the Insert Image icon (yellow box with a small mountain) and pasting the URL copied early into the box; or
b) typing

Oh, my mistake to just said URL, what i mean is external URL other then the photo gallery here, and what I want is other bros here can directly see the image in the forum without having to click a link like before what i did.

You can use external URLs as well. As fas as I know, there is nothing that makes URLs pointing to the Clubsnap gallery special. However, the usual problem is that people don't specify the correct URL (e.g. dynamically generated, non-permanent URLs), or they use an URL which is not accessible to the general public (e.g. requires some sort of login), or use an URL against the terms&conditions of the image hosting service (which may try to detect and block hotlinking from other sites such as Clubsnap). To check whether your posted image is accessible, you can log out of all services, clear all cookies, and view your post as an anonymous user.

I can't make out what that object is. Wilted plant? But it's not very facinating, maybe you can shoot it in a different way, like get closer and just take it's fibre and ridges, if the whole thing is uninteresting. I guess that's the most one can do with an object that can't pass off as here or there. The stick thingy beside it is also v obstructive. That's the first thing I see when I look at the pics, pics would be better without.
Otherwise you can also choose spot metering on macros for more accurate exposure. Keep on shooting.

In my opinion if you die die must place the plant in the centre, why not try a vertical shot instead of a horizontal one.
Currently the space at both side of the plant is not helping the picture...
just my two cents worth :D

other than having an interesting subject... i also make the same mistake... having too messy a back ground... it sort of distracts the viewer and takes the focal point off...

Just my thoughts... i may be wrong :) I also learned that sometimes no matter how also the shot won't be "wow"...

welcome to the club :) shoot and shoot!!:bsmilie:

The background is IMHO not so much of a problem as it is fairly defocused and doesn't hold much distracting detail. I think the problem is rather what others have said, i.e. the framing that doesn't show enough of the main subject.
