Combination Of Lenses

and also....is the vc or non vc version of the tamron 17-50 better? i heard people saying that the IQ of the non vc is actually better? any advice? sorry to sidetrack!

According to these reviews, the IQ of the VC version falls short slightly compared to non-VC version. Either way, if you don't pixel peep, I would say not much difference.

Read for yourself and form your own conclusions:

thanks for the links!
i guess i'll probably go for the non vc version...the vc not worth the price difference. haha
and btw....testing the nikon mount and canon version...........will the results vary? as in....a same 17-50 on a canon and a 17-50 on a nikon. it is possible that it will perform better on one and not as good on the other right?

pardon my ignorance!

my personal kit:

tokina 20-35 f2.8 (fx), 35 f2 pre ai, 50 1.2, 90 f2.5 macro, 135 f2, tokina 80-200 f4, 100-300 f4. for ultra wide, i shoot the 20-35 on film.

previously when i shot events, tokina 12-24, tamron 17-50 bim non vc, nikkor 80-200. if u pick up the tokina and tamron 2nd hand, they probably wont depreciate much and you can get back yr $ when u move up to fullframe.

i find AIS lenses are really top notch for the $ you pay. the above is what i use most, but got a bunch of others too that a swap out every once in awhile.

For a FX, i believe the following kits are sufficient.

1: 24-70mm F2.8 for all-rounder walkabout.
2: 50mm F1.4 for portraits and indoor events.
3: 14-24 F2.8 for wide angle shots.
4: Prolly a zoom lens? Any suggestions? ;)

lol add in 70-200 f2.8

If not too fussy, can just start with the 24-70mm.

70-200mm F2.8 VRII or the 85mm F1.4 might not be a bad choice too...;p

Fx

35mm & 70-200mm are sufficient ;)

Depends on what and how you shoot really.

I think i managed to classify useful lenses based on types of shooting and range based on my habits to help you make a choice...

For events;

Wide - 14-24, 16-35
Mid - 24-70, 24-120, 50 f1.4
Tele - 70-200, 70-300

For weddings;

UWA - 14, 14-24, 12-24 sigma
Short - 24 f1.4, 35 f2
Normal - 50 f1.4
Portrait - 85 f1.4
Long - 135, 70-200

So long as you have at least 1 type of lens in each category, or lenses that cover multiple categories for the type of thing you do, you're good to go. But rmb to put aperture into consideration as well. :bsmilie:

And you have to bring at least 2 camera bodies so that you don't have to keep changing lenses and miss the great moment to shoot.

Ah thks bro, I forgot to mention that. Esp. with the wedding lenses I suggested, a 2nd body is nearly always crucial. But when I'm 2nd shooter or tag-along-for-fun, I generally pop on a 50/85 and works great too, just like a good day of street.

If I am not wrong, I remember previously you have shot events and weddings with Canon gears. Living in dual camera system ? :)

I am a man of variable daily preferences and insatiable gearwhorism. Daily practices including constant nitpicking of skintone rendition on my D700 and reading up nikonrumors & canonrumors while editing raw files/video.

Switched from 1DsII to D700 and now considering D3 or 5D2... god save me,

I remember one of my friend said that if you had already bought the most professional camera that you could afford, you won't be interestested with others again. Just spend money 1x only.

For my case, this is :
- Canon 1D Mark IV
or
- Nikon D3S

God save me.
