i have the opportunity to redo the lights at my workstation during a home reno. i calibrate my monitors regularly. does anyone have recommendations on what kind of lights i should be looking at for reasonably-priced color-balanced ambient lighting (~5000K?) for color correction work?

thanks for the tip, useful information in that thread. it looks like daylight balanced high CRI flourescent tubes are a likely option. searching around i managed to find Philips TL950 tubes with 5000K and CRI 98 in 24", 36" and 48" sizes - sounds like wall or ceiling mount going by the size.

does anyone know if there are close CFL bulb alternatives for desktop lamps or down lights in terms of color temp/CRI? regular hardware stores only seem to stock the 'warm white' 2700k or 'cool daylight' 6200-6700k kind, with relatively lower CRI ratings.
