About Martin Liew:
Martin Liew is a self taught night photographer based in Singapore. He started out in making night photographs with a TLR camera on black & white film. His work features the most neglected night scenes of the city, covering almost every corner of the island during the wee hours while everyone is sleeping. When night falls, most photographers pack up and call it a day, but Martin strives to capture the cold and calmness of the night where time and space stand still.
Martin does nocturne photography (aka light-painting) as well, with which his work features modern ruins, abandoned places and closed military bases. Martin truly enjoys making pictures in the night; for its beauty and tranquility, and the urban exploration. Nothing is more pleasing and relaxing than making night pictures in the wee hours all by himself and at times, with close friends. Night photography makes Martin think harder on every single exposure before the shutter is released. Photography, to Martin, is about life, humanity, hopes, moods, emotions, self-expression etc etc, and night photography gives him that freedom and space for expressing his artistic views.
Martin blogs about night photography and currently he's working on his 2 main projects, Dwell in the Night and NOCTURNES: The Art of Surrealistic Landscape, working his way to publish each project in a book.
