is there any better grade close up filter? am using a +4 cheapo filter to try try...and notice it got some CA.

U pay more for better close up filters. It is not just a matter of getting a +10 is better than getting a +4 etc. Cheap single element ones can significantly degrade the IQ especially at the corners. Those with dual elements or more / special coatings give better IQ.

Examples include the Canon 500D, their 250D, the ( discontinued ) Nikon T series, zoerk makes a high quality +12 filter.

what does the +(insert number) mean? how to make it 1:1 using the close up filters?

You get the focal Length of lens divided by focal length of close up filter to get magnification
( focal length of the diopter is 1000 / diopter (+) )

Hence a 50mm lens with a +10 dioptre gives
50mm / ( 1000 divide 10 ) = 50% magnification

Different lenses give different reproduction ratios.
U stack a 2+ with a 105mm macro lens, and u can go past 1:1,
but u stack a 2+ with a non macro 105mm with low reproduction ratio, u might not even reach 1:1

To gain 1:1 for any particular lens u will have to find out and do abit of calculation backwards ...

ok one last noob questions. lol. so 1:1 means 100% magnification?

so basically whats the difference between these two lenses?
also the difference from telefoto lens.

thanks

Any close up filter that is less than +10 diopter is known as a close up filter. Only +10 diopter and above filters are known as macro filters.
